UPDATE 1-U.S. Congress wins relief on Obamacare health plan subsidies

Congress has won some partial relief for lawmakers and their staffs from the "Obamacare" health reforms that it passed and subjected itself to three years ago.

In a ruling issued on Wednesday, U.S. lawmakers and their staffs will continue to receive a federal contribution toward the health insurance that they must purchase through soon-to-open exchanges created by President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law.

The decision by the Office of Personnel Management, with Obama's blessing, will prevent the largely unintended loss of healthcare benefits for 535 members of the Senate and House of Representatives and thousands of Capitol Hill staff.

When Congress passed the health reform law known as Obamacare in 2010, an amendment required that lawmakers and their staff members purchase health insurance through the online exchanges that the law created. They would lose generous coverage under the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.....

You can bet the commie piggies up on Capitol Hill are breathing a lot easier tonight. That was a close one. They almost stepped into their own pile of ****.

They “suspended” a law that would have made such a self-serving exemption illegal. You ask me, they are breaking the law, again, still, as usual it would seem. Bunch of lawless, no good thugs.

"These recent maneuverings inside the beltway are precisely why the American people rightly despise Congress," said Vitter, of Louisiana.

One of many many reasons why. And multiply that by 1,000 and you get the intensity of despising for Obozo himself.

When do we reach Obozo's Ceaușescu Moment?

Well, it’s still a bunch of crapola, imho... but it does appear that the elite will be forced to purchase insurance thru the exchanges. Since so many of the big insurance agencies are pulling out of the exchanges, it could still bite them in the rear end. And I hope to he!! it does.

There is one thing I don’t understand. I thought that the power of the purse comes from the House. All I hear talking about defunding are Senators. So, how would that work?

This is great news.
One step at a time.
Repeal it for them only, first, but not us. We come way later.

See?? We are winning

Do you think Uncle Sugar will pony up 75% (or more) of your monthly costs if you’re forced into the exchanges?

But it isn’t being “repealed” for congress and their employees. You and I will pay their payments.

Just like we are doing now.

Dont expect Obama-care to be repealed anytime soon

That is what this action tells me,

It used to be that Government workers made a lower salary in exchange for better ‘benefits’. Now they make MORE than private workers and get the better ‘benefits’, too. Obviously, some PIGS are more equal than others. This Admin will be the destruction of this once prosperous, successful country.

Not only that, many have more than one retirement for the same work.

“Do you think Uncle Sugar...”

Of course not. But from I have heard about the current “Cadillac” coverage they presently have vs the coverage they might well be getting thru the exchanges..it could be a life changing event (no pun intended).

Yeah, we’ll be stuck with 75 per cent of their coverage (ridiculous). We pay all of it now. Their available health care (not insurance cost) may well be no better than what the rest of us will receive. That is what I think will bite them.

IIRC, House and Senate members can go to military hospitals for free.

I didn’t know that.

But aren’t military benefits being cut back as well?

Of course, that may not include the “elite”.

The active duty and retired military have to use the so-called “Tri-Care for Life” that takes bigger and bigger chunks out of their paychecks. When I was a kid and my dad had just retired from the Marine Corps, everything was gratis, even my mom, sister and I. Not one dime. That’s what they were promised.

“That is what they were promised.”

And that is what should happen, imho. I’m not a vet myself, but nearly everybody in my family and a boatload of my friends are. They are all upset about Tricare...as they should be.

If, like you say, the do nothings in the government get care from the military facilities..that seems like a pretty big loophole. And a WRONG one.

Thank you for your service...and Semper Fi ( I have several Marines in my family so I hope you don’t mind if I say that from them to you.)

On this same subject, Cruz and a few others are calling for the CR to be modified to cut all Obama-care spending.

But Reid wont even put that up for a vote, and Bohner probably wont either.

Regardless of that idea no one is stopping a CR without that inclusion from passing both houses, it would take 51 Senators all GOPs and a bunch of Dem Senators to join together do that.
And no-one is trying to round up those Senate votes. No they are not serious about this.

But a much more realistic stand they could take is to demand that the CR cut that 70% funding for congresses Obama-care that they got Obama to order.

That would hurt real bad as they would hate voting to oppose that, and what would Obama say about it?

Thanks, SOL. That is what my thinking is. Even if the Senate had the authority to stop the funding...Reid won’t bring it to a vote. Even if he allowed it, we don’t have the votes.

I’m not sure we have the votes in the House where the “power” really lies.

We are in a heap of doo-doo.
