Al Qaeda Conference Call Intercepted by U.S. Officials Sparked Alerts
The Daily Beast ^ | August 7, 2013 | Eli Lake and Josh Rogin

t wasn’t just any terrorist message that triggered U.S. terror alerts and embassy closures—but a conference call of more than 20 far-flung al Qaeda operatives, Eli Lake and Josh Rogin report.

The crucial intercept that prompted the U.S. government to close embassies in 22 countries was a conference call between al Qaeda’s senior leaders and representatives of several of the group’s affiliates throughout the region.

Several news outlets reported Monday on an intercepted communication last week between Zawahiri and Nasser al-Wuhayshi, the leader of al Qaeda’s affiliate based in Yemen. But The Daily Beast has learned that the discussion between the two al Qaeda leaders happened in a conference call that included the leaders or representatives of the top leadership of al Qaeda and its affiliates calling in from different locations, according to three U.S. officials familiar with the intelligence. All told, said one U.S. intelligence official, more than 20 al Qaeda operatives were on the call.

Not buying it. This is too well-planned/staged. The government’s not in the business of telling our enemies what we know.

This can’t be true. Dear Leader said that al Qaeda is “on the run”.

Fine. But not justification for archiving Americans phone calls and emails.

A conference call? This sounds pretty hokey, if you ask me. If they are into conference calls...that means no one is truly running the organization, and there has to be some consensus by the top players before anything happens.

I can see an entire Delbert episode over this. Mullah Joe (CEO), talking with the production guys, the guys down in research and development, the CFO Mullah Marty, and the engineers who hate being pushed.

No, I think this was a set-up, and some IT gurus are laughing over what they created as a joke.

Terrorist note to self:

1) throw away all cell and Sat phones
2) kill all current curriers
3) Change all safe houses
4) send thank you note to Susan Rice

Are you saying that these writers are tools of the Obama regime?

Yeh right....big conference call.

But remember, one of the biggies of alqueda is "creating" an early "pretend attack" to see what happens.

So even though embassies are "sorta closed"....they're watching.

And they're patient. One day turned into a week?? And then a month??

Exactly. Trying to wave this around to justify domestic surveillance of the entire US is ridiculous.

I read in the foreign press, btw, that the latest AQ explosive device is clothing that is soaked in an explosive solution and allowed to dry - and then makes its wearer into a walking bomb. I’m not sure how it’s triggered, but it’s apparently undetectable by any method we now use.

Yeah, that was my point.

So, they postpone the attack for a week, or two. Or until next year. No biggie.

This has 'false flag' written all over it.

So NSA spying on Americans had nothing to do with gathering info on the alledged terrorism threat...got it.

This leak is worse than anything Snowden leaked.

To leak the super secret ability means there is panic. The need to appear to be doing something trumps national security

Obama's internal polls must show the NSA thing has seriously damaged his standing with the democrat base.

I heard the news about the liquid explosives - I don't know if I believe that either.

Its a shame we don't have a competent news media anymore.

A conference call?

That made me chuckle, too. I can just hear it:

"OK, Abdul, can you give a brief summary of what this call is about today?"

"Mohammed, can you please mute your phone? We can hear those camels bleating in the background. Thank you."

"Does anyone have any questions? Anyone? Hussein, you had problems grasping the last sinister plot. Are you sure you understand this one?"

This is an Onion article, right? So do we get to see the PowerPoint slide deck and promotional Slinky and coffee mugs passed out to all the participants?

If the regime revealed what info they got from where, tipping the terrorist off, its akin to selling the country out and being a traitor,IMHO.

It is difficult to believe that anything the government says isn’t obfuscating BS? Terrorists’ conference call???? Right.

Now 0bie said that he doesn’t spy on Americans on Leno so it must true. 0bie is going down as the most treasonous, tyrranical, lying POS president that has ever existed in the U.S. Also the first black president and probably last black president unless they’re someone with integrity like Allen West. But no more black thug loving presidents please.
