President Obama on Tuesday argued that enactment of the Senates immigration reform bill would boost home values across the country.
"Its pretty simple: when more people buy homes, and play by the rules, home values go up for everybody," Obama said during a speech on home ownership in Phoenix.
Obama conceded that immigration was "something you dont always hear about when it comes to the housing market, but he said the two things go hand in hand.
"According to one recent study, the average homeowner has already seen the value of their home boosted by thousands of dollars, just because of immigration," the president said.
Cecilia Munoz, the director of the White House Domestic Policy council, tweeted during Obama's speech that it was a "fact" that immigration reform "will substantially increase home values."
According to data provided by the White House, immigrants accounted for almost 40 percent of new homeowners between 2000 and 2010. In California, immigrants accounted for more than 80 percent of the growth in homeowners, while in New York, more than two-thirds of new buyers were immigrants.
In Southern states like Georgia and North Carolina, immigrants made up more than a quarter of new homeowners, according to the White House.
Obama accused House Republicans of "dragging their feet" on immigration reform after the Senate passed a sweeping overhaul in June.
"Considering what this bill can do for homeowners, thats just one more reason Republicans in the House should stop dragging their feet and get this done," Obama said.
The president has made a point of touting immigration reform in each of his recent economic addresses, as part of an overall push to build momentum ahead of battles this fall.
At a tour of an Amazon.com warehouse in Chattanooga, Tenn., last week, the president argued in favor of "fixing a broken immigration system with reform that independent economists say will boost our economy by more than trillion dollars.
And while visiting a port in Jacksonville the week prior, Obama bemoaned that House Republicans refused to give the Senate immigration bill a vote.
"Over the last six months, the gridlock has gotten worse," Obama said.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said last week that the president would feature immigration reform prominently in his August speeches about the economy.
[I] would anticipate that you'll hear him talking about the importance of finally making some progress on comprehensive immigration reform" Earnest said.
What a complete idiot. He says illegals should play by the rules when buying homes but could less about them playing by the rules when they invaded out country illegally.
Obama lies again......how strange.
First Americans have to have jobs, real jobs... so they can buy a home.
the regime really does think were too stupid to take note of his repetitive Play By The Rules CATCH PHRASE dont they
“Millions of Americans who work hard and play by the rules every day deserve a ...”
“to gain an advantage over businesses that play by the rules.”
its filler language apparently
So would burning down most of the housing...
Is talking Housing Crisis Part II
Oh yeah and crap will smell like roses huh kenyan!?
In Obama’s eyes a person with a “government job” has a real job.
Yep
I'm so glad Obama decided to pivot to address whats really important to the middle class.
When the housing market burst in San Diego County the areas with the higher concentrations of Mexicans (Chula Vista, Esconddido, etc) had the highest rates of foreclosures. In many cases the banks did not even know the real names of the deadbeats. How would you like to live next to a house with dozens of people living in the garage and a family in every bedroom? When it comes to business and economics, 0bama is always 180 degrees off of the mark.
Well said but Obummer could care less about real Americans.
Here’s how great The Regime’s last brilliant housing plan went”
Obama’s HAMP Program
some quick facts:
HAMP modified 1.2 million mortgages (70% less than the target)
306,000 re-defaults
Another 88,000 at risk
The re-default rate is an alarming 30%
The re-default rate of those in since 2009 is 46%

Obama: Immigration reform would boost value of homes.... That have high security fences built around them....
There I fixed the damn headline!
Let’s see, continued automation is still creating a surplus of workers such that 5% unemployment with those with jobs working full time will never come back. We have structural and sticky unemployment and yet we need all this new unskilled labor right away, why?
I can foresee amnesty causing home values to sore like they have in Detroit.
One nice thing about Obama, that actually works out in his favor, acting like you’re nine years old pretty much makes folks ignore you. That way you don’t need to defend yourself. They just laugh and move along...
I’ve seen the advice that when you write, you should write as if talking to a seventh grader. The year may vary a bit, but the theory is that what you write will tend to be easier read, and understood. A writer can produce some very lengthy sentences that require a decoder ring, almost.
At any rate, I think Obama must have heard this advice and thought they said, “Second grader, not Seventh grader”.
It’s astonishing to read some of the text versions of comments this guy has made.
Illegals are already here. They’re already in homes. What housing boom will come from legalization. Are all 30 million of them going to move? Really?
Why haven’t they moved already, if they can afford it? There’s plenty of places that will loan to them.
Hey Barack, you’re such a kidder. (Dumb ass)
Oh, the irony of this statement. He's going to have to be renamed fearless liar........
I am sure bringing in immigrants to my neighborhood will increase the value of the $300,000 -500,000 homes in the area. NOT! I would expect that odumbo will force the sale of said homes to people who are ill prepared to even own a home let alone purchase one. (Give them loans for houses they can’t afford and will soon loose them.)
Re: my comment about, I would expect, if they could AFFORD the homes in the area and numerous people of their kind were to begin buying homes (with gubmint money) the vaule may increse BRIEFLY and then go DOWN instead of up.
What, turn the neighborhood into another Detroit? No Way!
