A married couple from Los Angeles have been jailed in the Middle East on a charge of murder with intent and are being accused of starving their 8-year-old daughter to death, according to a coalition of groups that are working on the case from the U.S. and trying to draw publicity to what they say are unjust arrests.

[ An investigative report by Qatari police raised questions about why the Huangs would adopt children who did not share their “hereditary traits” and raised concerns that the children were part of a human trafficking operation or were “bought” for organ harvesting ]

Moslems don’t adopt children not their own - they are too backwards to even consider that...pretty sure this was a disorder - and the wife should have taken her back to the US for proper treatment in a hospital...

Sounds like a complicated and sad story. One the surface, the parents appear to be genuinely decent and caring people who rescued starving children from Africa by adoption. But I’m sure there is probably a lot more to this story.

From the article, the couple had an unconventional family. They had adopted children from Africa, who had suffered traumatic poverty, and had various eating disorders as a result.

Why ANY family would seek work in a repressive muslim state is beyond me, but it is especially puzzling that a family with such special needs and unusual make-up would expose themselves to the bizarre vicissitudes of islamic law.

My own (late)husband was offered work on a project in Saudi Arabia once, and he refused. I am glad he did.

A nice liberal couple caught in the switch’s.

Sometimes taking your liberal leanings to a foreign country is not a good idea.

I found out our first child had special needs about the time I was offered a position in a tropical paradise. I turned it down.

Some places in the Middle East appear modern because they have money. But they are still the same backward, medieval, ignorant places. I would not try to raise an American special needs kid there.

You were wise to refuse.

An acquaintance of mine accompanied he husband to Dubai on a business trip. At the seven-star Bahj she was strictly warned against holding her own husband’s hand in the lobby or any other of the public spaces INSIDE the hotel.
