"throw eggs"

A lot of kids threw things at non-human objects when they were kids. I remember one time when I was about ten (I'm now 63) watching some friends throw rocks at a freight train. So I threw one and hit one of the freight cars. That actually scared me so bad (there were railroad detectives around), I ran home and never threw another rock at anything. So yes, many kids threw stuff at things we shouldn't have. But nobody ever threw a rock trying to hit another human being.

But nobody ever threw a rock trying to hit another human being.

Then you didn't live where I did. From the age of 3(1945) to age nine(1951), I lived in Bell Gardens CA, one of the roughest areas around and it is worse today. I learned what the words High School kid,Pachuko, Mexican and gang meant. Blacks were kind of scarce then but I understand it is full of them now.

We carried BB guns and Sling shots(commonly known as N****r shooters in that time period)made of wood and inner tube rubber. Our pockets were full of rocks and BBs. We quite frequently used both bbs and rocks to defend ourselves from High school kids, Pachukos(same as Mexican)and other gang members, who thought the best part of their day was beating up on grammar school kids.

I hit more than one Pachuko in the face with a rock or bb and didn't feel bad about it at all. It was self defense and neccessary to our survival.

Some mothers wouldn't let their boys(girls at that time seldom ventured far from home)carry bb guns or sling shots but quickly changed them mind when their kids ended up in the hospital or came home a bloody pulp.

I learned a valuable lesson living there, and that is my life is worth more than the life or health of some idiot who wants to hurt me. I am 71 now and have a CCW(yes there are counties in CA where you can get them)and carry every where, I will not hesitate to shoot if the need arises. I won't like it but I will do it.

However, to stay with the point of your comment, we never hurt anyone just for the heck of it, nor broke anyone's property or took anything that did not belong to us.

We owned bicycles because they were necessary, sometimes we could ride away from trouble before it became critical and saved us from having to use violence. We never used them to hurt people.
