Does anyone else find that offensive? It almost seems to suggest that the stabbings might have been justified. Unless they have specific information that the girl did something really awful to provoke a retaliation, they have no business saying that the attack "may not have been unprovoked."

I find the terminology incredibly offensive. If she had had a run in with some gang-banger earlier that day, it might explain why she had been targeted. But “provoked” suggests mitigating factors and the possibility of acting in self-defense. I can’t *begin* to see how either of those would apply to some thug stabbing an unarmed girl 11 times.
Good grief, what is with some people?
