As US pulls out of Afghanistan, its weapons head for Pakistan
Daily News & Analysis ^ | Friday, August 2, 2013 | Saikat Datta

New Delhi: With the United States all set to withdraw from Afghanistan, alarm bells have begun to ring in New Delhi as reports indicate that a lot of arms being used by the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) could end up with the Pakistani military.

The last time Pakistan received advanced weapons from the Americans in the 1980s, it led to the eruption of a terrorism movement in Kashmir. It is understood that New Delhi’s concerns have been communicated to US vice president Joe Biden who was on a state visit here last month.

India’s security establishment has been receiving steady reports that a large consignment of advanced arms is being claimed by Pakistan. On the cards are large consignments of night vision devices, sniper rifles, laser target designators for the Pakistan Air Force and counter-IED equipment. But what has alarmed New Delhi is a move by Pakistan to get weapon systems that don’t have anything to do with counter-terrorism.

Reports indicate that the United States is considering handing over AMRAAM air-to-air and sidewinder missiles as well as M-270 multiple launch rocket systems. It is believed that since these could come under strict export controls, the weapon systems will be first handed over to a friendly third country, which, in turn, will hand them over to Pakistan. While India has expressed its concern over transfer of such weapon systems, the United States has been non-committal to New Delhi on the issue.

Indian analysts believe that this is a worrying development but needs to be handled with maturity and not alarm. Washington is committed to resuming military aid to Pakistan under the Pakistan Counter Terrorism Fund (PCF) and the Pakistan Counter-Terrorism Capability Fund (PCCF). “Some of this equipment in Afghanistan could fall under either category setting it off against the committed value of aid already authorised by US Congress,” says Rana Banerji, former special secretary with R&AW and a noted Pakistan expert. “Both the Pakistan Army and the US want to repair the relationship which went sharply downhill after the Raymond Davis Affair in January 2011.” According to him, the visit by US secretary of state John Kerry could be a major resumption of a strategic dialogue between the United States and Pakistan.

Former ambassador to Afghanistan Vivek Katju is also circumspect about the developments. “Things have changed significantly since the 1980s and our conventional superiority against Pakistan is quite impressive. So if they get some weapons, it is worrying but we should not react without getting to understand the mechanics of any deal to transfer weapons.” According to Katju, the United States needs Pakistan desperately to ensure a peaceful withdrawal from Afghanistan next year. “The role of Pakistan is critical and in Pakistan the military is critical. So Washington needs to engage the military and keep them happy. This could be one such move,” he told dna.

In the last year or so I’ve read a few articles about 0’s administration definitely dissing India, wish I could remember. One might have been in connection with China crossing over into India and setting up camp, encroaching into Indian territory. 0bastard of course taking the China side. IIRC. There were other issues as well.

The only reason Kashmir is a problem is because of jihadis coming in from Paki.

2 or 3 generations ago Kashmi had very few Mozlems. In fact there are thousands tens or hundreds - of Kashmiri Hindus that have had to flee Kashmir, and many killed because of Pak mozlems invading Kashmir.

100 years ago Kashmir was a Hindu kingdom.

Thanks for your post. Big problem with your analysis though....Obama is in charge. He appears to be arming Islamists all over the ME. Why?

I agree that he is, but you were addressing Pakistan vs India.  That's what I responded to.

Why is he arming the Islamic interests in the Middle East?  IMO he's doing it because he has a very warped view of Islamic dynamics vs the West.

He doesn't understand that it's not wise to do some things.  He has entered the fray in Libya, in Egypt to a certain extent, and now in Syria.  If he's allowing weaponry to be siphoned off into Pakistan, then that's VERY problematic.  I hope that is not born out to be true on any large scale.  It would be school-child level thinking, if he approved of it.  That's not to say he hasn't displayed a lot of that level of thinking prior to this.

Obama was raised with way too much Islamic influence.  The view of Islam is that the West has been very unfair to it.  Their own actions are forgotten the moment they take them, but our actions are remembered for centuries.  The West is blamed for everything so that the Islamic nations don't have to be accountable.  You can see what that mentality is like in our own nation, as certain groups always blame others, and never settle down to take responsibility for themselves.

So Obama arms the Muslim Brotherhood, because he really does see them as akin to the Contras or something.  It's a blithering idiot's perception, but then we are talking Obama.

He was schooled in a Madrasa.  When he got older, he went to U. S. schools where layer after layer of hatred of the system was added.  By the time he got to college, he was already mixed up with the wrong support groups, and just like Bill Clinton and the Fulbright schollarship program, he was off and running.  These two guys had some similarties.  Both lost their dads early.  Both had mentors that were terrible.  Both learned how to scam the system.  Both were groomed from the start to become president.  This rivals some of the popular movie line stories of children raised from birth who were brainwashed to do certain things detramental to the West, or just the United States.  Both these guys got that sort of education and or mentoring.

Clinton learned about the Dixie mofia from his uncle Buddy.  Obama learned from several mentors that were very caustic.  He also mixed it up with Ayers, Dorn, and possibly even Louis Farrakhan.  Here's a link to Michelle in a picture with Mrs. Farrakhan.  LINK  I'm not sure how close Obama was with the Farrakhans, so I don't want to say this was a deffinate.  He was definitely traveling in the wrong circles though.

He arms them, because he thinks it's the right thing to do.  It's why he bows.  He's just a nine year old fool, in and adult's body.

I agree that Pakistan is a problematic nation. I still think there is gain in being on speaking terms with it. The reduced tension between India and Pakistan is one example.

One thing we have to remember is that Pakistan’s leadership cannot afford to be seen as too Western. It’s leadership picks fights with us every so often, and this puts it on record as not being in our hip pocket. I think both sides know it, and we sort of dance the dance.

Not many nations would let us go across their borders to take out a man like Osama Bin Laden without consultation, then not seriously freak out about it. Pakistan more or less allowed us to do this.

They also allowed us to send drones over their borders a number of times to clean out problematic nests.

I understand where you are coming from, but I do think some hard choices have to be made at times, and I think we’ve talked a pretty find line between Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India. I’m sure some instances of Obama playing the fool can and should be mentioned. I’m not here to defend him. That’s for sure.

It was by design that Obama took out Mubarak and Gadahfi, who were manageable, yet allowed two of the most dangerous leaders, Syria and Iran to remain in power, certainly the greatest threats to Israel. Bottom line, Obama is the supreme leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, no doubter.

Well, I would think we have bought their “allowance,” in many areas of influence. It isn’t like we have interloped without permission. Although, some media loves that type of portrayal, towards betrayal of Paki sovereignty. By the by- reduced tension between India and Pakistan? Hmmm, interesting statement. I believe that current flux, to be caused by political/economic infighting in both Nations.

I do too. I’m addressing why he does this stuff. It isn’t intended to make him look better. I view him to be a rabid-anti-American. His actions are detrimental for the West. I view that with a lot of trepidation.

We’ll be dealing with the negative aspect of his actions for at least the next fifty years.

I don’t think there is an Islamic Utopia. Butchering women as a course of normal everyday activity..., stoning them for being raped, keeping little girls out of school, marrying them off at nine or less, these aren’t the actions of a Utopian existence.

It would be a very tough cell, for someone to convince me an Islamic Utiopia is even a concept they can picture.

Obama is the nine year old mind, that just keeps on giving. I think he should be impeached and removed. Perhaps after 2014, we’ll have the numbers in the Senate to do it.

Bozo, I mean Obama, had no problems having people put chemicals into the cash for clunkers used vehicles to seize the engines, but we do this?

At the very least, we should run bags of sugar through them and slice them up some with cutting torches.

I think we bought their allegiance too. Sometimes that’s better than losing men to get the win. I agree that we had some permission. I think we had a tacit agreement that we could move across the border. I just think Pakistan has to bluster when we do. That doesn’t bother me. And as you say, the media loves to whoop it up, and act like we’re very bad to do this. They just display their ignorance when they do it IMO. Your take on the infighting vs Pakistan being distracted may be more accurate.

I think many of the terrorists have moved from the east side of Pakistan to fight in Afghanistan or perhaps even Iraq.

Perhaps this is why less terrorism is taking place on the eastern border with India.

I’m sure you probably remember back to the late 90s when there appeared to be a good chance there would be a nuclear exchange in the region. We haven’t had so much as a major dust up in almost fifteen years.

Of course there is an ‘Islamic Utopia’...it is jihadi martyrdom with 72 virgins. A death cult. Similar to wacko leftists utopia...a world without humans or only ‘select humans’ who recycle...lol.

Both are death cults at their most basic. Years ago when I studied Carl Jung and his theory of the ‘collective unconscious’ , one thing really stuck with me..... He issued a warning to the collective ‘ leftists’ wishes for peace at all costs..for the ultimate ‘peace’ is nuclear Armageddon for all humanity. Only then will there be a stillness..a true peace. His fear was that the collective unconscious would eventually destroy mankind through such foolishness...but I digress.

I don’t think Obama has a childish mind. I think he has a poisoned mind, a sociopathic psyche and malignant narcissistic ego mixed up with a messiah complex. Dangerous mix.

You know, I think this is an instance of us talking past each other.  I know what you're trying to say here, but I agree and disagree with you.

You see, even an unknowing child can have a poisoned mind, a sociopathic psyche, and a malignant narcissistic ego mixed in with a Messianic complex.  Wouldn't you agree?

Think of the North Korean leaders of late.  This fits them to a tee also IMO.

I agree this is a dangerous mix.  And if you do ultimately disagree on my premise he's a nine year old child in a man's body, we'll agree on the dangerous mix part.

Don't get me wrong.  I think he is devious.  I think he is calculating.  I'm not trying to say he's simply stupid, because I think he is crafty and cunning too.

I just will think his judgment is that of a child.

My only qualm with your analysis is the innocence implicit in describing someone as ‘childlike’. I don’t think he is innocent. Other than that..we are almost on same page.

I definitely don’t think he is innocent. I just think his growth was frozen at a certain point. He thinks he’s the smartest guy in any room, but I’m nowhere near convinced of that, and there’s where the nine year old thing comes from.

I do appreciate the give and take.

You take care...

I realize you aren’t defending 0bastard, for sure.

One possible reason for Paki being sort of mellower with India was that seeing US mil up close and personal made them think about things.

IMHO India and Paki will eventually have a war. Inevitable. Why? Because Mozlems will make it happen. Mozlems either become secularized as in urban Egypt, or they go hogwild crazy and vicious, escalating until put down. I see no other way.

From my practically obsessive reading about 0bastard’s background, it’s clear he’s completely mentally unstable, psychopathic for sure, and only apparently rational, sort of, in public is because he’s most likely on prescribed mental drugs, and self medicates as well. He says what he’s told to say; when he has to speak extemporaneously, he often stumbles, ums and uhs, and makes no sense at all.

His mind and consciousness are irreparably damaged. He was born to a mother who gave him up and had nannies, babysitters, was adopted in Indonesia to an Indonesian family, got ripped away from there, went to live with “grandparents”, was probably molested by Frank Marshal Davis in adolescence. So he was told a series of lies about parentage, and probably found the truth in high school or around there. Add to that his homosexuality which he has to sort of keep secret (I’m sure all of deecee knows about it) and he’s a walking ticking time bomb. The night he won the first election and I saw the photos of him onstage I detected great fear in his eyes, and of course other emotions such as arrogance, cruelty, victory and so on.

I have thought since that night that he most likely will have a nervous breakdown before this is all over.

I think that is exactly what happened on the night of the Benghazi attack.
