Three Penn State officials to face trial for alleged Sandusky coverup
CBS Sports ^ | July 30, 2013 | Jerry Hinnen

Three former Penn State administrators accused of helping cover up the crimes of Jerry Sandusky will stand trial for their charges, Judge William Wenner ordered Tuesday.

Wenner ruled at the end of a two-day preliminary hearing that state prosecutors had presented enough evidence to warrant a full criminal trial for former Penn State president Graham Spanier, former vice president Gary Schultz and former athletic director Tim Curley. All three men had previously filed appeals to have their charges dismissed.

All three men are charged with perjury, obstruction, endangering the welfare of children, failure to properly report suspected abuse and conspiracy.

Wenner called it "a tragic day for Penn State University," the Associated Press reported.

At issue is then-football graduate assistant's Mike McQueary's testimony that in 2001 he reported Sandusky's sexual abuse of a boy in the Penn State locker rooms to Curley, Schultz and Nittany Lion football coach Joe Paterno. The report was never passed on to authorities, but Curley and Schultz argue that McQueary did not tell them the incident was sexual in nature. Spanier follows by claiming Curley and Schultz never reported to him that Sandusky might have been sexually abusing the boy.

Prosecutors argue that the three men not only were aware of the abuse allegation against Sandusky, but that they attempted to cover up what they knew about it.

Curley and Schultz were initially charged with perjury in November 2011, when Sandusky was arrested. Spanier was charged a year later as Curley and Schultz were accused of further charges.

Sandusky was convicted last June of 45 counts of sexual abuse, and he was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison.

Graham Spanier, in particular, deserves to share a cell with Jerry Sandusky. It was he and his wife who were most responsible for creating the “don’t criticize anything Gay” atmosphere at Penn State.

My understanding is that Schultz has been on the payroll this entire time...and even tho Spanier stepped down as Prez, he kept his tenured prof spot.

Why has the Penn State admin kept feeding these monsters with $?

(There is such a thing as firing)

No doubt, hundreds of thousands of people have been fired upon being arrested for something...BEFORE it ever went to trial...

They are either pedo apologists for Big 10 apologists...which is almost the same thing given that University of Indiana made pedophile Kinsey sacro-sanct despite his oversight of infants & toddlers being sexually abused.

The Big 10: The Pedo Conference (that also flunks basic math)

I would have had more respect for those guys if they would make Sandusky disappear instead of covering up for the pervert.

Hurts me to say this because I was a JoePa fan since Penn State came to Phoenix to play in the Fiesta Bowl.

But now, I have to wonder whether or not he ever sidled up to one of these guys and said, "Our football team is a family, and we have to do all we can to protect our family members."

And I doubt that anyone of them would be able to resist the whispered request of an icon who brings in so much money a year.

No one is more deserving of Social Justice than former Penn State president Graham Spanier, a noted Wife Swapping Studies Scholar still employed at the University.

(Which, of course, is why Paterno uttered exactly the opposite: ..."I should have done MORE.")
