A Marine Colonel giving a direct subordinate “permission” to do something.Hell,I rose to the lofty rank of SP5 in the Army but I’ve always believed that an O-6 of *any* branch...particularly the Marines...gave *orders*,not “permission”.

Exactly! If a Marine General “gives permission to act freely in response to the attack”, I would expect a whole world of whopA$$ to be unleashed.

That’s what got my attention. Commanders give orders, not ‘permission’.

As an enlisted man, an O-6’s “wish” was an order to me.

He “gave permission”, huh? He’s weasel wording. OR, he really did pass the buck down to subordinates. If he admitted to giving an order, the next questions would be about what was done about failing to follow his orders.
