Obama Suggests Only Lawyers Understand the Constitution July 29, 2013 - 2:28 PM By Elizabeth Harrington

(CNSNews.com) --President Obama suggested in an interview with the New York Times that was published on Saturday that you need to be a lawyer to understand the U.S. Constitution.

The president made the suggestion when talking about members of Congress who have argued he does not have the constitutional authority to unilaterally suspend enforcement of parts of the Obamacare law.

The Times asked Obama if he “consulted” with his lawyer when making the decision to suspend the employer mandate, which would require businesses with more than 50 employees to buy them health insurance, and which was supposed to take effect on Jan. 1, 2014.

“[I]f you heard me on stage today, what I said was that I will seize any opportunity I can find to work with Congress to strengthen the middle class, improve their prospects, improve their security,” Obama said.

“And if Congress thinks that what I’ve done is inappropriate or wrong in some fashion, they’re free to make that case,” Obama added. “But there’s not an action that I take that you don't have some folks in Congress who say that I'm usurping my authority. Some of those folks think I usurp my authority by having the gall to win the presidency. And I don't think that's a secret.”

“But, ultimately, I’m not concerned about their opinions--very few of them, by the way, are lawyers, much less constitutional lawyers,” the president said.

The Constitution was written to be understood by the common man, lawyers like Obama try and give every single word in it an alternate meaning to advance their agenda.

Any intelligent, reasonably well-read citizen can understand the plain meaning of the Constitution. It takes a lawyer to contrive tortured interpretations that are counter to that plain meaning (cf. John Roberts).

...you need to be a lawyer to understand the U.S. Constitution.

Below is the Supreme Court-issued "license" to whom it may concern to interpret the Constitution.

"3. The Constitution was written to be understood by the voters; its words and phrases were used in their normal and ordinary as distinguished from technical meaning; where the intention is clear, there is no room for construction and no excuse for interpolation or addition." --United States v. Sprague, 1931.

The Constitution was written at a low as possible level so that even the people with least education could understand it. I guess that means that we are all lawyers.

Every time he opens his mouth he is overtly slapping the U.S. citizenry in the face. I really hate him more very day than the day before.

Says the man who claims the constitution was never intended to restrict the federal government.

The sentence includes ‘lawyers’ and ‘understand’ next to each other in the same sentence. A stab at ironic humor?

Absolutely correct, SCHROLL. The Constitution was indeed written, deliberately, to be understood by the common man.

That’s why the first three words are “We The People ...”

Yeah, we’re too dumb to understand the Constitution. What an arrogant, self-serving, would-be dictator. I hate him, I hate all democrats. The party should have been outlawed in 1865 and its leadership north and south hanged for treason. I understand the Constitution very well you kenyan pile of shit and I understand you and your party’s drive to destroy it; a process that has been ongoing since the days of that other POS socialist Woodrow Wilson.
