The irony is that he probably sees - or would like to see - them as unraveling countries. To go backwards from developed/advanced to developing would be proof that his policies are working and cause for him and the little mrs to celebrate.

What you write is grossly inaccurate.
The only island where there was a successful slave revolution was on Hispaniola’s St. Domingue colony.
One reason that it stopped being successful after the revolution is that its success was based completely on slavery. Freeing the slaves meant that the economic foundation of the colony was eliminated. Hence an economic catastrophe.
