More than 19 million whites fall below the poverty line of $23,021 for a family of four, accounting for more than 41 percent of the nation's destitute, nearly double the number of poor blacks.

All I know is, all the homeless and beggars I see around here lately are whites with American accents. Obama must be cackling with glee.

Some advice ... be prepared.

I would imagine just about everyone out there caught this. 1987? That was post the Reagan boom. Why didn't they mention 'since 1980'? That was directly after Carter worked his magic. The media in this nation is so screwed up.

WTF???? 4 in 5?!?!?!?! I know the AP is a propaganda organ for the ever expanding Welfare State but this is ridiculous even for them. The irony is that the part about "relying on transfer payments" is not a sign of poverty but rather, as sign of how pervasively the Welfare State has infested the middle class in America. Everyone gets some type of a transfer payment. Its the reason the country is swirling down the toilet financially.

We create jobs in the fast food industry. Either you make it or you’re poor. There are no jobs in between. It kills me when people here go on about what do people expect to make working at McDonalds. A living. Thats all. Not poverty.
