Comptroller says Quinn move means no paychecks for lawmakers (Illinois)

Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka said Thursday that she cannot issue paychecks to lawmakers unless they vote to overturn Gov. Pat Quinn's $13.8 million veto of their salaries or a court rules her office must pay out.

The decision comes after weeks of review by her office and lawyers for Attorney General Lisa Madigan after Quinn's move this month to suspend lawmakers' pay until they send him a measure to overhaul the state's highly indebted public employee pension system.

The situation puts legislators in a tricky spot: either get by without pay or face the political backlash that could accompany a lawsuit or a vote to override Quinn's action.

The great American unraveling has started. Detroit is the first, other cities, and counties will follow. State gov that rely on gov state unions for power will have great conflict as the reps must decide supporting an unsustainable financial model or face the union wrath. No matter how one cuts it, the state union workers are the ones on the chopping block. Guarantee there will be social tension and disorder as rice bowls get smashed or go belly up. It will be interesting to see how the Dems react or how they will lash out as their state gov union structure unravels in a financial crisis. Smart freepers stock up on guns, ammo, food, prec metals and etc, because the unraveling will start slow and pickup in speed and number. There will be social chaos on the local level till it all burns out.

No Quin is a Dem. He decided to solve the deficit by raising taxes. IN loved him because businesses moved from IL to IN. Even though Quin is a Dem he knows the pension system is broke and needs reform. Problem is his Dem legislature needs unions to get re elected. Funny several Dem gov are starting to realize that states need to develop and expand sources for income. Example Gov Cuomo and Gov Brown can see states that frack are rolling in tax income and have surpluses. These liberal gov’s realize that they need income to keep their socialist world running and higher taxes is not the solution. Problem is they are trapped by their unions and environmentalists. Trapped and unable to act, the great unraveling is starting to happen to Dem states and cities.

Could try to blame it upon the Republicans, but the Progressives control everything in Illinois.
