CEOs seem to be ignorant of the fact that our universities are filled with foreign students to the point that it’s difficult for an American student to even get a spot.
The market is also flooded with H1Bs from India and China.
The curriculum for a 4 year engineering degree also includes 2 years worth of garbage non-engineering related classes. That’s a big turn off.
It’s also easier to just get a job in finance which pays more and has better hours.

Finance is a far easier major as well.
Maybe, maybe not.
Finance is volatile, and subject to the whims of politics.
Much engineering is more independent of politics.
We will always need roads repaired, electric power and schools built.
