Our schools are too busy teaching PC, sex ed, and Marx. Other countries actually teach their kids math, science, languages, etc.

Private schools and home schooling are very popular here. Schools are too busy teaching to the ones making the lowest grades instead of bringing them up higher. I am 69 and when I went to school, grades mattered. If we did not make it, then we failed. That should happen again. Of course, I went to school in the good ole days. A few years ago, my granddaughter hated high school and wanted to quit. My daughter talked to the counselor and she suggested my gd take the GED which she did and made the highest grade ever. She was bored with school.

Yep but for a kid to make a perfect score is great.

Obama has a population in need of self esteem. Slap an Engineer title on ‘em. pay them big, and let ‘em loose on FB software.

It's hard to produce enough engineers when the kids coming out of public schools are illiterate and innumerate.

Those are very comparable starting salaries, within 5-10k of each other to start. I have never seen engineering groups receive the bonuses or salary increases that occur in the management chains. I also compare the hours worked by engineers vs. those in finance, accounting, etc., and I’ve continually seen engineering work more hours by a significant margin which, in effect, makes your pay lower.

Except for my first engineering job, I’ve always been paid by the hour. When I work 60 hour weeks, I get 50% more pay. I have had year end bonus of 30% my yearly salary.

While there are exception and variances, my experience and those I have almost always worked with differ from what you describe.

There are certainly bad engineering jobs, but there are a lot of good ones as well.
