PBS and NPR are not enough. It's never enough for these people. Progressives must have total control. There must not be any dissent or opposing views.

What need is there for this? What Constitutional authority is there for this?

Why are my tax dollars being diverted to this?

Law reforms? Don’t they mean Executive Orders?

"...danger in how far the government will get involved in programming decisions, and if those decisions will be influenced by party politics is yet to be seen

No need to wait --- you can count on this being a 'Rat party propaganda machine. Count on it.

Unfortunately, we have Congress to thank for this.

Specifically, representatives Thornberry of Texas and Smith of Washington.

Boy, and just when you thought the Congresscritters could not get any more stupid.

Though in practice, not much different than the string of 8 to 10 pro-Big Government PSA’s that my local affiliate runs during breaks in The Mark Levin Show.

It’s for the War on Terror - according to Obama that’s over

From the article shared:
http://www.sfgate.com/technology/businessinsider/article/US-Government-Funded-Domestic-Propaganda-Has-4668001.php

Davis stated that the effective repeal of the Smith-Mundt Act is a strategic move in influencing U.S. public perception in regards to the Global War on Terror (GWOT).

He cites Colonel Richard B. Leap, who recommends that lawmakers “specifically address all prior legislation beginning with the Smith-Mundt Act that is limiting the effectiveness of Information organizations in the GWOT environment.”

It’s for the War on Terror

"Hi, I'm George Clooney. Did you know that encouraging your neighbors to sign up for the Federal WIC and SNAP programs will make them 38% less likely to engage in terrorism?"

"Hi, I'm Julia Louis-Dreyfus. Like me, you are no doubt worried about our National Parks becoming training grounds for international terrorists, because they are so badly underfunded."

Welfare for collaborationist third rate actors, directors, producers, studio union thugs, etc., producing propaganda for the Main Committee for Political Enlightenment (Glavpolitprosvet). Are they going to dig up Nadezhda Krupskaia (Mrs. Lenin) to run it? She ran the original.

Federally sponsored programming is already all over (at least) AM radio. You can hear ads for all manner of feral agencies.

For now, at least, watching those programs will be voluntary.

In time, that will change.

programs produced by the Broadcasting Board of Governors.

Next will be an FCC policy decision to require all broadcast license holders to carry it on a weekly basis (like Mexico’s Hora Nacional)
