LAND O'LAKES -- The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Land O’Lakes shooting that left two people injured.
It happened at a cottage in the 4400 block of Land O’Lakes Boulevard just before 6 p.m.
The sheriff's office said two men went into the cottage armed with a fake gun and tried to rob the people inside.
Someone inside then pulled out a real gun and shot the suspects, deputies said.
Both of the injured men ran outside and collapsed on the sidewalk by the road.
A registered nurse, Jennifer Price, was driving by with her daughter and stopped to help.
"When I stopped I said ‘somebody needs to get that gun and move it, I don't want to get shot,’” said Price. “One of the boys that I went to had about four or five gunshot wounds and I just tried to help him as much as I could. The other fellow they moved off and he had several wounds to but he wasn't conscience at the time."
Both suspects were taken to the hospital.
The sheriff's office said five people were in the house at the time, including a 2-year-old child.
None of them were hurt.
At this point no charges have been filed in connection with the shooting.
The sheriff's office says it's still early in the investigation and deputies are trying to sort everything out.

Having lived in the general area myself, I would estimate about 75% of the law abiding residents have guns. 90% of the criminals have them.
It looks like somebody seriously miscalculated the odds. Race probably not a major factor, unless the "home invaders" were from elsewhere. Most likely to be found to be drug related, on both sides, but it could be criminal on innocent. Odds heavily stacked against that, but possible.
If you live close to an Interstate or a State highway, you’re easily accessible to people passing through. That’s just awful.
