Of the guns in private hands in the US, roughly 1/5 of them are owned by Texans.

freedom loving people look at this chart and are happy we’re the best armed free people in the world

statist, one world, globalist socialists look at this chart and are enraged armed us citizens throw their plans into disarray.

hence four attempts to disarm us by obama so far

1. fast and furious - evil gun stores - exposed, failed

2. gabby giffords - psycho after politician - exposed, lib angry gabby wasn’t liberal enough, failed

3. newtown - psycho kid after children - apears to be’false’flag with several men running away from site, one caught, partial success in CT, national fail

4. zimmerman self defense case - race war and gun control going after SYG law, predicted FAIL, as this wasn’t about SYG, as long as’it’s made clear, they will fail

That's almost half of all privately owned guns worldwide

I think the trick in this statistic is use of the word "privately". Many individuals have possession of guns they may not "own privately".

More than 47 million AK-47s alone (over 100 M in the AK family) were built and multitudes of third world resident, some from childhood, are seen carrying some kinf of gun around.

Just half? Most countries are awash with illegally-owned guns. I have had friends in several different countries tell me you can buy any type of gun underground.

Interesting article. Apparently the Sandy Hook parents believe that since their kids were gunned down by a lunatic, then our kids should be left even more unprotected

I am coming to believe that the Sandy Hook parents are souless ghouls intent on promoting the slaughter of school children.

(It’s truly a tragedy what happened to their kids, but that DOES not mean that I must sacrifice the safety of my child)

More people have died by government owned guns than by privately owned guns throughout the history of man.

From the DAILY BEAST :

Supreme Court’s ruling in June that an individual’s right to bear arms, as set out by the Second Amendment, applies to state and local gun-control laws, and gives federal judges the power to nix weapons rules that they feel violate the freedom to keep and carry firearms. There is no federal agency or clearinghouse that monitors the sale or ownership of guns.

But based on background checks performed by the FBI, there were more than 14 million gun-purchasing transactions in 2009—10 percent more than in 2008. Of course, a person buying three guns in a single transaction is vetted by a single background check, so the volume of background checks does not illustrate the total number of guns purchased, or the total number of people who bought a gun. Still, the statistics on background checks provide the most accurate window into the localities where the firearm industry is flourishing.

Those statistics show a country divided. If you want see how a state votes, it seems, just check out its gun ownership: All 10 of the most armed states voted for John McCain in 2008. All 10 of the least armed (including the District of Columbia) voted for Barack Obama.

For our rankings, we considered state data from the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System for the last 18 months. We divided the number of background checks by each state’s population, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2009 estimates.

One stipulation: States are not completely consistent in reporting of NICS data. Some states use the system for background checks on purchases on the secondary market and others do not. As well, Kentucky implemented monthly NICS checks on concealed weapons, which has inflated its numbers.

And the water levels have risen to unheard of levels, as a result.

Way higher than for Global Warming.

I question the data. There are estimated at roughly 51 million privately owned firearms in Texas.

I think that is grossly low.

RE: Alabama is May Issue? WTF?

I believe that was an older map. Alabama will be a “shall issue” (as of 8/1/13) state for concealed carry. Permits are always issued to qualified applicants.

Well, that’s just horrible...

that every other country in the world doesn’t have the same percentage of gun owners that we do.

The NCIS numbers do not include gun show sales and exclude previously owned guns. It only reflects new purchases.

In the case of Texas some of the private firearms have been in the family for 2-3 generations.

So these numbers do not mean much.

Why can’t the Oppressive –left ‘move-on’ from that? (To coin a phrase)
