They believe media *facts* and *statistics* and they truly, sincerely believe society would be safer, better and less violent if access to guns were greatly or completely restricted. They have never been around firearms or knowledgeable firearm owners. They have been fed lies and formed their opinions on the basis of them. In many cases, these people can be cured with a trip to the range and exposure to the truth.
Type 2 are far more insidious. They understand that a firearm means a degree of autonomy and independence. It is a means of resisting heavy-handed tyranny, and they can not abide that their perceived lessers would have the temerity to possess such means.
