AMBRIDGE, Pa.
A Beaver County store clerk with a real gun thwarted a robbery by a suspect armed only with a BB pistol.
Authorities said 42-year-old James Hayes, of Ambridge, remained jailed Monday on a charge that he tried to rob Moh's Market.
Police said surveillance video showed Hayes entering the Ambridge store about 3:45 p.m. Saturday and pointing his gun at the clerk, Abdul Belaouni, who responded by pulling a real gun on Hayes.
Belaouni said he works hard for what he has and he was simply protecting his store.

The perp may be an idiot, but so is the store clerk.
First, he had better have been 110% certain that the perp had a BB gun, or he put himself in a Mexican standoff, which is no better than having no gun at all and just daring the perp to shoot you in the belief that they don’t have the nerve.
Second, he comes very close to having his gun taken away from him by the perp, by very stupidly trying to shove it in the perp’s face.
“The perp may be an idiot, but so is the store clerk.”
I definitely agree. You pull the gun to use it, not to intimidate and hold for arrest. Don’t be a wannabe cop, the state sees that as a depraved mind. The perp getting shot would not have been the worst situation here.
Committing robbery or smashing a head on a sidewalk is a shooting offense.
