Thousands Protesting The Zimmerman Trial Verdict Have Taken Over Times Square
Business Insider ^ | 07/15/2013 | PAUL SZOLDRA

George Zimmerman was found not guilty Saturday of the second-degree murder of Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Fla., — and many are not happy about it.

Protests are taking place in cities across the U.S., and one of the larger protests is happening in New York City's Times Square. Thousands have taken to the streets to protest the verdict, shouting "No justice" and "Trayvon."

There's a large police presence to ensure the protests remain peaceful, and so far they have been. The protests, which began in Union Square, morphed into a march headed towards Times Square.

From Reuters:

About 1,000 to 2,000 of the demonstrators abandoned the protest site at Union Square to march in the streets toward Times Square, slowing or stopping traffic.

Police attempted to funnel the crowd into controlled lanes but were unable to. Police halted the march about eight blocks short of Times Square, which was already packed with tourists, as is typical on a summer evening.

Although police tried to block marchers from moving into Times Square, that effort largely failed.

“This is a show of strength, but it’s also a show of solidarity with the family because last night, what happened, was complete disrespect to them,” Imani Henry, an activist with the People’s Power Assembly, told NBC News. “We want to show love and respect to them.”

Zimmerman shot and killed Martin in Feb. 2012, claiming self defense after the 17-year-old allegedly attacked him. The six-person jury in his trial were given the option to convict him of the lesser charge of manslaughter, but he was acquitted of all charges.

President Obama called for calm early Sunday after Zimmerman was set free.

can you imagine what the crowds would do if you cut off their welfare checks?

Or their trust funds. It's Manhattan. Normal people can't handle $2000K month rent.

America is lost.

Successive generations of Americans have now been raised in an education system that stresses emotions and narratives over logic and facts.

The "diversity is our strength" cliché is increasingly becoming unmasked for the blatant lie that it is. The diverse groups in America see this case in a completely different way. This over-the-top reaction to a reasonable verdict is not an aberration, but is America's future.

And the media no longer even pretends to be impartial. The media is straight Cultural Marxist propaganda and no longer feels the need to hide it because that's exactly what many Americans want.

I guess to be PC now, if a young black thug is beating you up you are supposed to evaluate your injury and then maybe decide, “This isn’t so bad. I won’t use my gun to defend myself. Maybe he’ll stop.”

I’ve heard that the white people at these demonstrations are actually all undercover police.

No, Trayvon was an innocent 12 year-old boy who was attacked and killed by a white vigilante for walking in a white neighborhood. That’s the official story
Try to keep up.

Oh sure they are out there right now, marching together. But wait and see what time does. There are already little infights. Wait until the summer gets longer and hotter. JUST like back in the day, the militant factions will run off the hippies, who are in the mix for fun of it.

I promise you, many (if not half of them) could care less about Trayvon- or the case.

Some people are professional protesters, some are just anything that looks counter culture, some are stoners/hippies/anarchists.

This is not a cohesive group of protesters with a common mindset, is my point.

Let them march around. The numbers of radical black panthers looking to kill people has not grown, no matter what these protests are trying to tell us.

In other news, the 100-odd people that showed up in Philly yesterday were on the front pages of all the newspapers. I think they were all holdovers from a "Free Mumia" rally.

Despite the media's best efforts, this attempt at race-baiting is going nowhere.

Well none of this is about Travon Martin, never was from the get go..which is why I haven't followed it closely...anybody with any brains knew this was self defensive..period..nothing more.

.... All the rest happened...because of Travon Martin's ‘MOTHER’ changing her story within hours of the “Pay-dirt” she saw possible....everything thereafter is rooted there in the mother.

She got “Rights” for the one thing she wanted...’Patent's’ on anything that would come from this debacle and she wasted no time getting them....she's a disgusting hateful and selfish woman who long ago vacated any responsibility for her son!

At any rate..here we are wondering when the next race riot will occur....and among who. It only takes one black person and the media ..and the likes of Sharpton, Jackson and the NAACP to see the opportunity to get in on the “pay-dirt”......while all the rest scramble to the streets to find their place of significance in the ‘story’...and the media will be more than happy to feed their appetite for just that.

Looks more like a liberal, white guilt party!

That was my first thought as well after looking at the pictures.

Did the State Dept organize it?

I would not be surprised.

Interviewer: "Why are you here?"
Protester: "I'm here for Tra'Von, man!"
Interviewer: "And, who is Tra'Von?"
Protester: "She's a little baby girl what got shot up by the police, man!"

Really? Wow. Words fail.

This is a new cause for the Occupy crowd. It's always something with the subsidized classes on the left.

When I was a young adult in the sixties, the long haired, painted Volkswagon crowd was subsidized by their parents, who they despised. Today their offspring are subsidized by the government, who they adore as long as they are far enough left.

Most of these people wouldn’t be from New York, just there for a few years so that they can bore others for the rest of their lives about their New York experience.
