As one who spent many years on rock and ice, I say ‘Go girls go!’
That said it may not be the best use of time.
1,000 feet of vertical is long and unrelenting hard work.
If the pole in the photo goes all the way up they should have good protection and no long screamers.
When Spider Dan Godwin climbed in Chicago he was at times using glazers grips and because of a dirt film on the glass they slid down while in use!!!(I knew a reporter that was there, inside watching and later met Godwin.)
But using petroleum-based ropes/shoes/clothing/equipment (as one of the commenters says), doesn't send a real clear message.
I've never understood the point of these things. Is Shell supposed to notice the people climbing outside and say "Gollee, Fred, they're right! Let's quit boiling the polar bears and make chocolate!" ?
