SAN DIEGO — Three of Mayor Bob Filner’s biggest supporters, including former City Councilwoman Donna Frye, have called on him to resign over allegations of sexual harassment.
Frye and local attorneys Cory Briggs and Marco Gonzalez each sent letters to Filner this week asking him to step down. The trio declined to answer questions until they hold a joint news conference at 10 a.m. Thursday.

Filner took office in December promising to shake up City Hall, but his tenure has been marked by clashes with other city leaders and several controversies. They include questions over a developer’s $100,000 civic donation, an unannounced trip to France and the resignation of two top aides who cited his treatment of staff as the reason for their departures.

Maybe in some rinky-dink town off in the boonies, but not in Chicago or New York City or Detroit! The leading Democratic [sic] party's show case cities have been thoroughly corrupt for decades, not mere weeks.

Filner’s time as mayor, short as it may be, has been a complete disaster. You know that’s true when his fellow leftist kooks want him gone.

The County of San Diego remains right of center. Unfortunately, in the City of San Diego Democrats now outnumber Republicans and Independents lean left. I don’t think either Donna Frye or Nathan Fletcher are electable. However, Todd Gloria probably is.
Filner learned his arrogance while being a member of Congress from a safe district for many years. Reapportionment to create safe districts for incumbents does this. When you have lots of power to spend essentially unlimited sums of money and can never be forced out (unless you act in a really stupid fashion ala Duke Cunningham) you can develop a certain egocentric attitude. Filner is learning that this “tude” does not work when you are the mayor of a closely divided city with a quality City Attorney and a hostile local newspaper. I hope he resigns. Like many politicians in San Diego he is little more than a kept creature of the public employee unions.
I so wish Papa Doug would buy a few more papers, brining a fresh journalistic perspective to other towns. I enjoy his editorials!!!
Bob Filner was a rude, crude, obnoxious asshole when he was in the US Congress.
He does not have to take pills to be that way — he was born to it!
