Three solar firms file for bankruptcy in a week

While environmentalists tout benefits of solar power, three solar companies filed for bankruptcy in the past week.

Each of them blamed intense global competition for its downfall.

The German companies Conergy AG and Gehrlicher Solar AG filed for insolvency in German courts in the past week. The Hawaii-based solar company Hoku also filed for bankruptcy protection, reports Renewable Energy World.

Hoku owes up to $1 billion to creditors and had to cancel building a manufacturing plant in Idaho, which had already been delayed several years.

Conergy’s 800 German workers are now in line to get three months of government unemployment payments.

All three companies partially blamed fierce international competition from places like China, which has flooded the solar market with cheap panels. Additionally, the German government has been cutting down on green subsidies.

If you don’t make money you go out of business. This is why statists hate free enterprise. It’s just not fair.

the German government has been cutting down on green subsidies.

They went broke because they weren't getting enough taxpayer money. That would be a clue to anyone with half a brain. Which is at least double what liberal EnviroTards have.

Where's the Simpson graphic that says, HAHA!?

Geeze, these people never learn. I did. I was looking at algae as an energy source until I ran the numbers and decided not to get near it as an investment. But then, I owned and operated 3 small businesses and knew how to read a P&L (profit and loss) statement, same as your revenue and expenses on you checkbook.

It's really that simple, but the Fedgov doesn't see it, thinking their massaged "balance sheet" will even out the projected income. May I remind everyone that MOST alternative energy projections world wide are failing?

Nah, that’s probably in the desert, you know the PROTECTED desert were average citizens are prohibited from riding motorcycles, dune buggys, quads, camping and so forth because it is HARMFUL to the the environment. But it’s okay to scrape the soil down to nothing and put in square miles of solar panels, because they are GREEN.

That DROPS the cost to installers and consumers. Manufactures of panels are sucking hind teat, but it's not at all clear that it's bad for consumers.

Well these idiots then ought to wise and and quit starting up companies in the free world...

The solution is to move all world manufacturing to China...And they've got a good start on it...

As I remember it the Desert Greenies were fighting with the Solar Greenies over that. And the Regular Enviro Greenies were fighting over the need for new transmission lines.
