Believe it or not, there was a Rumanian restaurant called Drakula here in Austin. They served traditional Rumanian fare. Nothing that would reinforce the name. (Blood sausages or fried “stakes”, for example.) It was okay.

For sure, the name lured me in. “I GOTTA see what this is about!”

For sure, the name lured me in. “I GOTTA see what this is about!”

Another example I can think of is the Vikings.

These guys plundered, murdered, and raped their way along the coastal areas of Europe.

They undoubtedly destroyed many lives in their time. Now we have sports teams named after them, and anyone who could be offended by their exploits is long dead.

I could imagine a future sports team called "The Nazis", where they goosestep into the stadium with Prussian-like, snappy uniforms.

It might be troubling to think future generations taking the Nazis more lightly, but with human nature as it is, I sincerely doubt present levels of sensitivity will be maintained forever.
