Judge rules defense can show Trayvon Martin died with marijuana in his system

Defense lawyers will be permitted to show that Trayvon Martin had marijuana in his system when he and George Zimmerman had their fateful encounter in a gated community in Florida last year, the judge in Zimmerman's murder trial ruled Monday.

Judge Debra Nelson denied a motion by prosecutors to keep toxicology results showing THC in Martin's system from the jury, paving the way for Zimmerman's lawyers to argue the drug may have influenced the teen's behavior. Defense attorney Don West noted that in Zimmerman’s statement to the non-emergency 911 dispatcher that it appeared the person he was observing in the Sanford, Fla., community was “on drugs.”

Late Monday, Zimmerman defense spokesman Shawn Vincent said the defense could rest by the end of the day Tuesday or early Wednesday morning. The prosecution would then have rebuttal witnesses, with closing statements by Thursday or Friday. Vincent stressed this scenario depended on everything going as expected.

Nelson's ruling on the toxicology results came after the jury was dismissed following a day of conflicting testimony about whose voice could be heard screaming on a subsequent 911 tape. A parade of Zimmerman's friends said they recognized the neighborhood watch volunteer's voice, but Martin's father, who police said initially told them he did not recognize the voice, said he came to realize it was his son after hearing the tape some 20 times.

The testimony, in week three of Zimmerman's murder trial, came after the mothers of both Zimmerman and Martin testified Friday it was their son doing the screaming in the Feb. 26, 2012, 911 call made to Sanford, Fla., police. The issue is critical because Zimmerman, a 29-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer, says he shot the 17-year-old in self-defense as he was being beaten.

“If one has violent tendencies, then it is very likely that those violent tendencies will be amplified when one is under the influence of a substance. Any substance,... “

Different drugs have different effects. Your statement is demonstrably false, as it stands.

In other words,

when Zimmerman said “this guy’s on drugs” to the dispatcher,

he was CORRECT.

I would agree with that. Drug use can result in paranoia and psychotic events which can be extremely dangerous.

Saint Trayvon would NEVER have used illegal drugs! Haven’t you heard, he was good, pure, chaste, a scholar, volunteered his time helping old ladies across the street and never EVER used foul language or broke the law. In fact, the Dalai Lama referred to Saint Trayvon ask “the ieal of behavior that I one day hope to attain”.

So OBVIOUSLY this so-called ‘toxicilogy report’ is nothing more than a piece of fiction that was the direct result of a racist lab tech, a racist lab and a racist judge allowing racists to use race.

My statement is generalized, it is based on my own personal experience and my extensive experience with others were ALSO drug addicts, and it is not false.

that would surely bring an ‘ima riot’, whatever that means, in all those tweets threatening us if Zimmerman isn’t drawn and quartered at dawn.

Yep, I certainly can be. I have done some damn stupid things in my life.

Another characteristic that I have is honesty, and as such I will call it like I see it even when it comes to my own shortcomings.

“Then the judge will likely not retry as it would be futile.”

As I recall, normally the decision to retry or not is made by the prosecutors, or those to whom they report. So it’s ultimately up to Sharpton.

You mean Saint Trayvon’s 4.0 grade point average, his membership in the national honor society, all of those advanced placement classes he aced, his participation in debate club and mathletes, his presidency of the student group on race relations, his stirring salutatory speech at graduation, his academic scholarship to Cornell, his 28 page proof that Thevenin’s Theorem is utter nonsense, his ability to solve a 12th level determinant in under a minute, or his triumphant term as student body president?? THOSE records??

Listened intently to the trial today. Tracy Martin testified today that he called several authorities when he realized trayvon was missing and looking for him. The Juvenile Detention center was the first one he mentioned. I think dad incriminated his own son and opened the door for evidence to come in regarding TM past school suspensions and other issues. Also, why he was visiting his father for a week rather than attending school. A simple question, “why would you even consider your son was in trouble with the law?”

I think that fellow was high on ‘bath salts’. A type of designer drug with effects similar to those of amphetamines or cocaine. Only this is significantly worse, if the news reports from last year are to be believed.
