Lots of small communities are built right up against the tracks all across the country. Here is Grass lake just north of me. The dashed line is a working rail line and virtually every town along it is the same way all the way across the state.

Folks need to think long and hard about moving oil and gas by rail through populated areas.

I suppose you could always haul it by truck (as most of the crude loaded on rail cars is, before it is loaded on the train).
