Best job I ever had was as a computer operator (a tape monkey at the time) that was 12.5 hours for 3 days a week. I had a 4-day weekend every week! One days worth of OT, was a pretty big bump in pay. It was one of the best jobs I ever had. Some days, after work, I’d take a wrong turn when heading home and end up in houston for the long weekend. (from Dallas)

I’m home in Idaho since my customer has no money to pay me for the work in San Diego. My wife took a 5 PM to 3 AM shift 4 days a week since she figured I wouldn’t be home. It is hell. I can’t go to sleep until she gets home on pain of being trampled by 5 barking dogs. Half of each day is lost sleeping on her schedule. She fritters away the balance until ready for work. By then, the places I want/need to go are closed.

[Rotating shifts, particularly when they include the night shift (11PM-7AM) are,if anything, worse than straight nights.]

Yep. It's like continuous jet-lag. Forcing the circadian rhythms to adapt is very stressful.

Of course, that's desirable for the hive-masters who want nothing more than obedient drones under their command...

Hi Don,

I was wonder, is this a four shift rotation?

Our shifts are a killer in so many aspects.

We work 7 to 7(days and nights)24/7

Our schedule goes like this:
4 nights on, 3 off, 5 days on, then go straight into nights for 3 nights(we are allowed one day off in this straight 7 days/nights shift). Then off for 4, back for 3 day shifts, then off for seven.

Tonight we are finishing the last of that seven shift. Everybody in our shop are walking zombies.
