I think the standard configuration is with the guy on top.
A soldier who’d had a vasectomy wouldn’t (normally) get a woman soldier pregnant, now would he?
You snip all the soldiers. Then what? They can’t get anyone pregnant. The female soldiers can still get pregnant because not all males are soldiers.
Alternatively if a soldiers knocked up 1 woman he’s not affected in terms of battle readiness. If he knocks up 10 women, still no change. Now when he gets to 100, then I’d say he’s probably battle fatigued.
This thread was about women in combat, so the reference would be to when soldiers, male and female, are stationed at some hellhole outpost in, say, Afghanistan, not at Ft Bragg or other post.
The ONLY one who could get a female soldier pregnant under those circumstances would be a male soldier stationed at the same location, which circumstances would certainly lend themselves to such a possibility. It’s a whole new take on “the girls all get prettier at closing time.”
