GOP gloats over Obamacare delay By: Jason Millman July 2, 2013 08:31 PM EDT

Obamacare opponents on Tuesday had a “We told you so” moment.

As the Obama administration announced a one-year delay in the employer mandate, leading Republican lawmakers and political strategists painted the decision as an admission of the law’s failures – and a blatant attempt to shield Democrats during the 2014 elections.

“Delaying the employer mandate is a clear admission by the Administration that the health care law is unaffordable, unworkable and unpopular,” Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said in a statement. “It’s also a cynical political ploy to delay the coming train wreck associated with Obamacare until after the 2014 elections.”

The administration defended the delay as an effort to provide flexibility to the business community, but it’s bringing negative attention to the law just as the White House and its health care allies launch a major campaign to sell Obamacare to the public. Enrollment in the exchanges starts in October.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who this week received a Democratic opponent in his 2014 reelection effort, used the delay to again call for “repeal and replace.”

“Obamacare costs too much and it isn’t working the way the administration promised,” McConnell said in a statement.

House Speaker John Boehner also called for repeal and replace, rehashing Democratic Sen. Max Baucus’s “train wreck” comment. Baucus – who helped write the law - earlier this year said he was worried that implementation would be a ‘train wreck” – a line that his GOP colleagues immediately picked up and amplified.

Isn’t it illegal to do this? Let it start so people will feel the pain of it. IS the GOP stupid or something?

To answer your questions in order: If anyone but Obama did it, yes. I agree with you. Yes to both.

LOL... it's not illegal if Obama does it. /s

Now that some government drones have actually read parts of the bill and thousands of pages of compliance regs have been written they're finally having an "oops" moment and understand that people will realize all the promises were blatant lies. Can't have that happening just before the mid-term elections.

I don’t understand why the GOP is gloating. Obama will have bamboozled them again if he gets away with delaying the mandate. The question for Obama is “Why?” Ask him “why are you delaying this, Carney?”

Not do I. The GOP seems to think voters will be thankful the Non-Affordable Care Act has been delayed. Instead, the 47% (plus) will be angry at them for delaying the fulfillment of the "promises". They do not yet understand and never will until it starts to hurt them.

They need to make sure Obama and the dems obey the law. PERIOD.

The only way the sheeple will know the law is broken and needs to be killed is if they understand the pain we all have been saying it will cause.

Once again...the GOP is looking to play politics instead of looking out for the best interest of the country.

If Boehner had even one ball, he’d immediately introduce legislation to completely de-fund 0bmamcare and the implementation thereof.

Somebody needs to send a couple of cases of Huggies over to “Politico”. The ones with the 25 lb. load limit.

Wouldn't be big enough. You can't stuff 50lb of "politico" in a 25lb sack.

The precedent has been set . . . we now will have annual delays in the implementation of ObamaCare which effectively repeals it without repealing it.

Stop gloating and take action... empower the people to ignore the personal mandate, and the requirement to file said fact with the IRS. Shut It Down.

I hear you!!!

My family’s health insurance rates have skyrocketed, we lost Empire Blue Cross Blue shield(my husbands company pulled it) so we couldn’t keep our insurance even though we wanted to, our new insurance sucks because we have had to lay out tons of money for tests that used to be covered, the $2500 cap on our FSA account killed us(it’s gone already I have 3 kids)so we have been suffering over this for quite a while. This latest installment is hardly a victory for the GOP. I say to them, grow a spine and get rid of this monster we call Obamacare. Otherwise, shut up!!!

Was there Language in this bill that allows the stipulations to be changed at the drop of the hat?
Who all are allowed to change regulations. I would think If Obama can change this law any member of government may do the same. Hey Boehner Just file A the whole thing!

I don't know

I do know the most common phrase is "The Secretary shall" so it seems like the head of HHS has all the dictatorial power in this bill.

Just an impression without reading the whole damn thing.
