This is a repost of an article that was on FR a number of years ago. It's relevant today, which is why I repost. It needs greater visibility in these times.

Very good paper and analysis, very gad news. One word stood out for me the most. “malleable”. That’s it in one word. Independent, self-supporting, self-reliant people, capable of thinking for themselves (but who rely on God and divine guidance) are the biggest threat to would-be rulers.
This paper tells me that most people running for public office want to rule. Some are just more honest about it than others. We are so screwed.

Thank you for posting this. It makes sense.

I agree with aristocracy, but I also think cheap labor is a “follow the money issue”. The elites counter with “jobs Americans won’t do”. Not true. They are jobs paying to little to be done why do they pay to little? Because the free market has been distorted by imported serf labor
Pay $8 an hour for picking apples and see what happens IF no serf labor undercuts the market. No one will apply. It’s hard work and a living can’t be made at 8 an hour
Without serf distortion of the market it will find a real level...I’m guessing
About 20 an hour. They will cry that prices will rise. Why? Because imported serf labor over the years has short circuited finding efficiencies.
Give a few years and things will balance out

They are jobs paying too little to be done. Why do they pay too little?
Sorry for not proofing first.

The short hand is that the upper party dems want cheap votes and upper party pubbies want cheap labor.
Neither care about the american people.

An Aristocracy. Said the Republicrats: "We've decided rather than let the American people replace us politicians, we're going to replace the American people."

What could be motivating U.S. legislators to do the opposite, that is, to see their constituentsalready politically mature and proven as responsible and civic-mindedas an obstacle needing replacement? In other words, why would they want to replace a nation that works remarkably well (that Sarmiento was hoping to emulate), with another that has trouble forming stable, normal countries? There is that word again!

written in 2006 but the same analysis pertains today... Why the traitor class in DC betrays the historic American nation they were born into, that gave them all they have including their millions in wealth

Though similar stories involving lesser politicians do not make headlines, several lawmakers we met also had a special, giddy mystique of Mexico as a place where moneyed leaders coexist with tame, grateful citizens.

Well this makes more sense than my theory - that Ohomo is blackmailing them with PRISM data. My theory does have the advantage of simplicity though.

Yup. That's one of the things that jumps out at me as well, as being so obviously true.

“They are jobs paying to little to be done why do they pay to little?”
First, use “to”, “too” correctly.
Second, if Dad, Mom, and son are working for $8/hr ($24/hr) that is a livable wage.
