-- The strike that shut down public transit in California's Bay Area is delivering a blow to the economy.
As the shutdown enters its second day, a conservative estimate puts the cost at $73 million per day, the Bay Area Council Economic Institute said.

Where is that socialist/marxist Gov. Moonbeam?
Won’t it be nice when we ALL have to take the bullet train?
Just replace the strikers with homo pedophile illegal aliens that practice the Muslim religion.
Did a liberal come up with this conservative estimate? Talk about cognitive dissonance.
It’s liberal Mexifornia, after all..........
Who Cares?
Leftist Californians love their Unions but apparently their Unions don’t love them back. I’m here in this area now and the media is reporting non-stop all the alternate commuting headaches caused by the strike. Cant blame this one on ‘greedy Wall Street’.
Thanks for letting me know about the strike and if you have any Oakland-->SF travel tips ... :)
I am certain that they chose this week in an attempt to gain results without creating the public fury that would, potentially, undermine the union. A lot of people took this week off. Imagine the tie-ups next week!
Well I don’t live here in Ca so maybe another local FReep can chime in. Just in case the strike is not over then maybe have a car rental reserved in Oakland.
Ha Ha, BART simpleton strikes again...
Well, duhhh, that is who is already on strike.
“Just replace the strikers with homo pedophile illegal aliens that practice the Muslim religion.”
You can’t. They already work there.
By 1985, when I lived in the East Bay, it became impossible to drive across the bridge to SF for lunch and get back to the office on time, as traffic had basically congealed. We blamed it on that one last Chinese grandma who got her drivers’ license, locking up SF traffic forever.
I would imagine that folks in the East BAy have little to zilch chance of getting to work and back over the Bay Bridge now. By the time they’d get across, it would be time to go home. Rowboats, maybe? Or little speedboats might do it. Seriously.
Maybe the moon bats will finally admit that freedom of personal transportation is not just a rightwing, suburban,meat-eating, heteronormative, patriarchal, Christian, redneck, bush voter issue. Did I cover it?
Lesson learned in having to rely on socialist run transportation dominated by greedy Unionists. If they get their way then who gets to ultimately foot the bill? Enjoy the future BART fare increases you indirectly voted for Bay Area residents and don’t complain—until the next strike of course.
Watching the local news is even more excruciating than it normally is; it’s all strike, all the time (even when there are NO further developments).
One of the local newsdorks interviewed an Oakland woman who complained about the inconvenience of her daily commute across the bay. I was shocked; they actually found an Oakland resident with a job!
See how fragile our economy really is?
Something as relatively minor as a work stoppage can shut down a region. What happens if something major happens, or a coordinated bunch of minor issues?
We’re living on the knife’s edge, kids.
San Francisco styles itself a "transit first" city. This strike shows why we should all live in such paradises.
