He said that despite his group’s proximity to the Israeli border and the contested Golan Heights, which Israel has held since the 1967 Six Day War, there “is nothing between us and them” and would’t be, “even in 10 years’ time.”

VERY bizarre statements coming from a guy representing ANY Army unit or irregular army unit calling itself “MARTYR” anything!
This stinks to high heaven and is not to be trusted as meaning anything. NOTE very carefully that he says there would be no problem between his type of regime (if they win) and Israel “EVEN IN 10 years” time...

OK, so he figures it will take at least 10 years to beat Assad, establish an Islamist regime, consolidate their forces and THEN begin attacking Israel, right?

If he had said “we want peace forever” then I could take the statement as bizarre but well intentioned. But 10 years leeway time until I can launch a Jihad against Israel from Syria and southern Lebanon? Is that what we are looking at?

It is significanicant that the time period is ten years. Ten years is the maximum time allowed for a ‘hudna’. The jihadi is allowed to call for a hudna when victory is not achievable in the near term. Although sometimes likened to a truce, in fact a hudna is a tactical cease-fire that allows the jihadis time to rebuild their forces in order to be more
effective when the “cease-fire” is called off.
