The military is now in power.
If you are a military grand staff, you don’t make this kind of statement unless you intend to act. To allow the Brotherhood to stay in power now would be to sign their own death warrants.
Morsi is looking for Obama to save him???
What a damned fool.
Obama will sneak around and arm the Muslim Brotherhood, but he hasn’t got the stones to actually make a move.
If the Army goes against Morsi , he is cold meat.
Based on the duration of past FReepathons, I’d say it’s best to get our horse galloping straight out of the gate, but I will defend to the death your right to disagree.
“Russia was Egypt’s #1 ally until Anwar Sadat. What would stop them from going there again?”
Infrastructure and spare parts. Egypt is broke and the US taxpayer is paying to maintain their 1500 Abrams tanks (General Dynamics World Services) and their fighter jets. The reason that Morsi wasn’t replaced by the Army before is that Obama quietly told the Army that they didn’t have his support. I suspect that if the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) funding was withdrawn the Army would be down to just rifles in 2-3 years. Russia would love to get a toe-hold, but they probably couldn’t support the Army at the required level. (But, of course if the Army were not concerned with Israel, their requirements drop tremendously.)
Agree - now they HAVE to take out Morsi, or die trying - or Morsi will behead every staff officer in Egypt.
This oughta' be interesting to watch....
China is a better card to play. They have money.
I dunno. Usually these dictator types set up some sort of Praetorian Guard that gets first dibs on all the good stuff.
I pray the military is serious about this. Time to start cracking heads and putting the MB up against the wall.
They must realize if they do not stand firm with their demands they will lose an enormous amount of credibility and respect within their country. The MB would no doubt begin a purge of the high ranking members of the military.
The irrational regime which captured Iran in 1979 has survived without it.
What makes you think a rational regime like Egypt's military couldn't do the same?
Lack of oil money? If money were the primary ingredient, then whack-job regimes like Albania (before the fall of the Berlin Wall), Cuba and North Korea would be long gone. So would comparatively rational regimes in no better shape than Egypt such as Pakistan.
True. I guess we will find out soon enough who has what in Egypt.

You also have to look at whose palms will no longer be greased by all that money. You’re correct, they don’t need it. But, then the Shaw had years and years of spare parts in warehouses. That’s not the case here. (I know, because I worked for GD and we built what they bought. As I understand it they were pretty much using what we built as they got it.)
But, do the people in the Army feel the same? What if you were a general concerned with a potential war against Israel (which they are) and you could look at a chart saying that with normal wear and tear in 3 years you’d have to throw rocks? These generals are not religious nuts and they take their responsibility seriously.
BTW, they do have a complete technical data package and were setting up their own spares plant. But they don’t have even the beginning of a tech base. They could, however, give the TDP to the Russians in exchange for the parts for free. Alternatively, the Koreans have reverse engineered the entire tank (which is the basis of the Korean M1K1) and were trying to sell fully functional spares to GD’s clients in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
The Shaw? :)
“The Shaw? :) “
Mia Culpa...Shah.
The Shah was the best thing to happen to Iran in 2000 years. Jimmy Carter was the worst thing in 2000 years. All the others are just bit players in a Shakespearian tragedy. Obama is the worst thing to happen to the middle east and western civilization since the birth of Christ.
Hopefully, Iran, the middle east and western civilization can survive and overcome. But from this dark corner I don’t see the glow of dawn.
Post of the day!!!
When the time comes, will the US military support its people or the usurper?
Oh, wouldn’t that be wonderful! Helicopters on top of a white house evacuating people. I’ll never see it but it’s a nice dream.
Note to NSA: I said “A” white house. Not THE White House.
Russian Forces to Provide Security At US Events
“As part of a deal signed last week in Washington DC between the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry and FEMA, Russian officials will provide security at mass events in the United States, a scenario that wont sit well with Americans wary of foreign assets operating on US soil.
According to a press release by the Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defense and Emergencies, US and Russian officials met on June 25 at the 17th Joint U.S.-Russia Cooperation Committee on Emergency Situations. “
