To be sure, Carter and Obama had less than a complete grasp of the events and their importance concerning Iran and Egypt.
However, it's complete folly to believe that portion of the world (islamic culture in general) is available to diplomatic and democratic ideas in the first place.
I'd like to believe that notion would occur to those in power outside this forum, but I'm less than hopeful.

It was bound to fall apart sooner or later. I’m not convinced our diplomacy has necessarily been in the best interest of this country, or even the ones we choose to meddle in.
