There’s definitely crime in heavily African parts of the Caribbean, especially Haiti, which is heavily African (not to mention influenced by the dysfunctional French rather than the Spanish), enormously poor, and where life is nothing but crime and violence.
But the black Caribbean immigrants who come here usually aren’t from the complete slums but were lower middle class in their countries, things like taxi-drivers, cooks, or even the owners of tiny businesses. And American black thug-culture exalts exactly what you said, being a spoiled ingrate who, instead of taking advantage of opportunities in the land of plenty, lies around waiting for things to be done for him and is jealous and vindictive against people who actually are accomplishing something.
One of the big threats to all heavily African-descended area is, in my opinion, rap music, which projects a very negative image of black people and I think is something unconsciously absorbed by them. However, it’s not universally popular, especially in places like the Caribbean with their own long musical traditions, and even in places where there are locally-made variations, it tends not to be the violent, hate-filled stuff that is made and promoted in the US (by whites, in many cases!).
One of the big problems is that the US media and US academia and US government have made thug culture the defining element of the condition of being of African descent in the US. Look at all of the representatives (again, mostly white) of these areas rushing forward to defend the abysmally ignorant, lazy, sullen, race-baiting, violence-supporting girlfriend of Trayvon Martin in the Zimmerman case. She’s being held up as an “authentic” example of black American society, and unfortunately, she is...
If a mob of whites had done this to a group of blacks the New York Times would run it on the front page...
Being cowards - would they continue the attack after the first one or two dropped?
Imagine how much worse this would be if it law abiding citizens were deprived the use of arms.
Except in that sort of situation you want to have more rounds in the mag than targets, I think 2.5:1 is a good ratio.
(There's no guarantee you'll put one down with every shot, even if you hit.)
Thanks, It seems we are all going to have more “HOME BASED” celebrations in the future!
The city doesn’t want to admit the gangs are fighting a turf war over the new casino area.
Many of you older FReepers may remember when (March 13, 1964) Kitty Genovese was murdered in NYC. As I read her story, I made up my mind not to stand by while someone in distress needed help.
Several years later, after undergoing Navy flight training, I was able to put a name to the thought — “Not on My Watch!”
I had occasion in 1983 to test my conviction while I was on active duty with the Naval Reserve in New Orleans. Needless to say, my intervention in a mugging was successful, and the perp was apprehended by the authorities. But that is a story for another thread.
Ever since then I have been drawn to articles about people watching events such as this one unfold. I find that there is a name associated with the phenomenon — “bystander effect.”
Without going into any detail at all, I refer you to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect, a rather comprehensive article on the subject of why bystanders to emergency events do not get involved. Read it — you just may learn something about your fellow man!
The point of my post is that if, indeed, we are in a period of increasing hostility in our society (as I firmly believe we are), We the People need to get involved when these types of “beatdowns” occur in our presence.
I’ll state my position clearly and concisely — “Not on my Watch!”
I am now 72 years old, but should I see a person in distress, I’ll do as much as my tired old body will allow me to do to help them out.
Stay safe!
Stay Armed!
Zimmerman did the right thing as a Community Watch person, and he did the right thing when he shot Martin.
My wife would be shocked if I wasn’t armed.
I would be shocked if she wasn’t as well.
Impossible.
Carrying a concealed weapon is forbidden in New York. Possessing a pistol without a license is forbidden in New York.
“Release”???
A combination of Chicago and Iraq would be my guess.
I was trying to not bog down in detail, but it looks like I need to do that in order to explain what I meant...
I was responding to post 20 which described thugs killing a man they were chasing on the interstate.
The thugs described in post 20 used semi-automatic weapons against what seems to be an innocent motorist they picked out of the blue.
My thought, leftests want our guns. Right? And theyre constantly whining about the fact that NO ONE needs automatic weapons. And we keep telling them basically, "Out of my cold dead hands."
They think, what better way to get their agenda through than to have us believe that our loved ones might be next if we "don't get guns off the streets."
Conservatives see it exactly the opposite and always will.
Now, the poster in 20 said, I believe someone is pushing for a summer of racial violence similar to the late 60s
Since we pay attention to what leftists do, what they say, what we know they want for this country...that comment is believable. Leftists hope for, dream of, instigate violence - no doubt!
If violence occurs spontaneously, they will use it to their benefit - to push their agenda.
But what we're seeing with this administration goes far beyond using opportunity...they are pushing an obvious agenda of violence in order to accomplish what they're trying to do to us. And why not! It works in other countries.
Just look at how they treat the accounts of violence listed in this thread, the daily violence on young black men in Chicago, etc. Crickets.
Then look at how they pick and choose what they respond to --- an obama mini-me.
So in thinking of the leftest mindset and ultimate goal for the United States (obama, holder, pelosi, reed, schumer, etc ), I responded to the poster in 20, Leftists ..dont care (about the death of this man, nor the violence to come) (leftists) dream of this scenario .(leftists) instigate (violence toward innocent citizens) in the hope (that well eventually listen to their reasoning) begging them to take (guns).
Which would basically be the same thing as us begging for them to take our guns.
The result would be the same because leftests don't allow opportunity "go to waste."
“You were depicting liberal thought, not expressing your own.
Got it.”
Yes, thank you. Sorry I was vague.
I had posted my comment in frustration over what I believe is the obama agenda, and it was misunderstood by some.
Basically, leftests don’t care if we all end up victims of violence as long as they can remain in power and continue living in the safety of their guarded ivory towers.
Thank you.
In other words, you were voicing the leftist delusion from THEIR point of view in an attempt to make it understandable. As you have found, attempting to rationalize the irrational lefty mindset is not possible. You’re lucky your brain didn’t explode.
FRegards,

“If its violence they want, THEY should get it”
It doesn’t take much for them to call even the simplest Constitutionally guaranteed protest violence when it’s directed at them.
Part of their agenda is to confuse issues and redefine reality. We see them do it on a daily basis, with them rationalizing true violence, pretty much ignoring it.
But remember how they went on and on in describing the Tea Party and the people at the town hall forums as violent?
They were shocked (shocked!!!) that anyone of such low standing would dare speak to one of THEM in such a manner.
Yet the occupy thugs and black panther types are held up like they were heroes.
“Youre lucky your brain didnt explode.”
Don’t I know it!!!
Does not look good all around.
The most comprehensive treatment of this black mob violence is White Girl Bleed a Lot: The return of racial violence and how the media ignore it.
Don’t leave home without it. You can find it at WhiteGirlBleedaLot.com
