You’re shocked that a Guardian reporter is a Marxist? That’s like being shocked to see Junior Samples at a flea market.

Actually I'm shocked that FreeRepublic.com didn't have a thread about it.

I haven't seen any praises sung for Commie journalists here, nor are there likely to be.

None of which changes the fact that the US government spying on virtually all American citizens - which is EXACTLY what those @$$holes are doing - is totally, absolutely unacceptable.

Greenwall has always been of that thinking. To me, it looks as though he just outed his distaste of Obama for the spying and cover ups of that spying. Even Bill Ayers is turning Obama for not being true to his pre Bush era days of promoting further government intervention; just not this kind. The NSA can hit the massagers though does not change the fact that our government has been spying on all of us and using our personal content in any event they may desire to use it. Could it be also these leftists are (truly) admitting they know what Obama’s intentions are.

Greenwald has attended the socialism conferences since at least 2011, saying, “As someone who speaks at all sorts of political gatherings every year, I can say with certainty that no event assembles more passionate activism, genuine expertise, and provocative insights than the Socialism Conference. This will be my third straight year attending, and what keeps me coming back is how invigorating and inspiring it is to be in the midst of such diverse and impressive activists.”

OMG - he's still in the 'true believer' stage...

I guess nobody else on FR is surprised that a Guardian reporter is pro-socialism/communism/marxism/progressivism.

I assume that he's simply a principled useful idiot at the moment and thinks that socialism and any significant degree of freedom can co-exist. Who knows, Greenwald might be making the first steps on a painful journey toward embracing the free-market, limited government, & capitalism. If he loves liberty and not oppression that's where he will end up. Or he might slid into full blown statism.

Regardless, never interfere with a leftist in the process of destroying a more evil leftist.

You may not be looking close enough.

But in any case what you do see that is quite unusual is an agreement between the far left and many if not most Freepers on the NSA spying issue.

Granted that many Lefties are blindly supporting NSA since doing so supports Obama. But, IMHO, their heart is not really in it.

So I'm standing by my Strange Bedfellows comment. It is happening. It is uncommon. It may be unique.

If both parties weren’t statists, this would make a difference.

Well, when you get agreement on an issue between people on the right and people on the left, that is indeed pretty remarkable.

I think what it indicates in this case is just what a sweeping, outrageous, flagrant, glaring, insufferable governmental abuse of power this program of spying on pretty much everyone in America is.

Hmmm, what side should we be on? The so called commie journalists side or the side of the Marxist tyrant Barack Obama.

Here's an idea. Let's be on the side of the US Constitution, the Fourth Amendment and inalienable rights.

I suspect Jeff that you are in full agreement with that...not sure about IP.

That’s really the trick. The statists in both parties are pretty much okay with the surveillance state, they just don’t want the other side of the aisle to wield that kind of power.

Glenn Greenwald is not just a leftist, but that rarest of creatures, an honest leftist. He’s no friend to conservatism, but he’s also no friend to statists. So, we liberty minded can enjoy a little common ground. ;-)

Many leftists are half-heartedly defending Obama, but deep down, they realize that they’ve been had. They’ll back Obama because there’s no other option, other than total defeat in 2014 and beyond. There are Larger Issues At Stake to liberals, and they’ll jettison whatever principles they have to to protect The Cause.

Glenn, to his credit, doesn’t agree. He would prefer a principled defeat to an honorless win, and I fully endorse giving that to him.

The Guardian is ultra-ultra-left: Obsessive and hysterical loathing of America and anything to do with America. Politics, culture, people. They probably hate American trees and shrubs.

No surprise they would do anything that makes the US look like a villain AND might weaken American power or influence.

The fact that it might make Obama look bad would be a minor consideration in comparison. Obama is a fellow Marxist, but also a hated American.
