It had to be a politically correct ‘cautious disclaimer’ for the benefit of the liberal nancies who lurk here and might assume we’re all racist klan members...or some other such idiotic crapaganda.

Unless the intruder is a 6 year old kid, no worries.

First of all, the windows are only 27 inches wide and 24” deep because it’s an old log house and there’s *two* sets of windows, external ‘storm windows’ having been installed long before I got here and secondly, no matter what window you pick to come in, that dog up ^ there is going to be on the other side waiting to ‘greet’ you.

[he’s *not* a for-show-only “intimidation” dog..far from it]

Whatever comes through the window, he gets to eat.

So, go ahead and poke an arm in.

He goes so berserk when people come in the yard and hits the windows so hard that I don’t put the blinds up until I know all the delivery people have come here for the day because even though there’s window between him and them, they still won’t come in the yard so unless I want my packages left in the lane, I have to keep him from being so ‘visible’.

:)

And this is under the main window of the house where he is most likely to appear, first:

It's been an effective combination for us.

“If you look to either side, you’ll notice that you’re also standing in a ‘gauntlet’ of big Boa Constrictors striking at you from within their enclosures.”

And doors are no obstacle:

They always must put that * disclaimer on the MANY articles about such things.

Just like all robbers and muggers on movies are white. Yeah, right.

Bingo.

Most (not all - witness my very poor abnormal German Shepherd of all things) dogs will AT LEAST sound the alarm. (In fact, many crooks don’t like that - will leave rather than draw attention.) Get in the way of the scum, and buy a little time, if nothing else.

You’ll get alot of bravado on here and “I carry all the time; so should you” big-talk nonsense, but even so it’s just not practical. You have to have a good reason for carrying 100%.

OTOH, surely there was SOME weapon this woman could’ve found, especially when the bastard went back up 3x! Surely she had a knife or some large long thing to whack him with.

It isn’t just firearms, people. In my home are many possibilities not far away.

Exactly my question. They seem to be big on making show, but don’t actually do anything.

LOL, sounds great.

“a crazy 100 pound broad with a Beretta because I’ve been sitting in the living room watching....”

...you were POed because they busted in on your soaps?

LOL sorry, just reminds me of Goldthwaite in “Police Academy”....”SHUT UP! I’m watching Family Affair!”

Good afternoon.

I do, but I live in FL. I see you live in MD.

What does the "bravado," and "big talk," comment mean?

On crime threads it happens all the time. “None of this would happen if she had a gun/carried it on her hip all the time.”

Never mind the big glib talk from everyone who says they wouldn’t hesitate to blow some robber away, etc.

It’s a bit of hyperbole. A bit too much. That’s all. Things are never as simple as all that. “Never say never” - or for that matter, “always”.

Worse...they made me pause something I had on the DVR from the night before.

(I’m really weird about being all
caught up on my nature/science shows)

God forbid they interrupt Sons Of Anarchy or Vikings.

:D

In this case, I think it was fortunate she didn’t go for a knife. She was stunned and staggering and he was so much bigger than her; he probably would have taken it from her and used it on her and the children. She made a judgement call under terrible circumstances not to fight, not to scream, and she was right. She and her children lived.

That’s 20-20 hindsight though. God help her and her little girl heal from this.

I don’t sit around all day ‘packing’ but the dogs are with me 24/7, no exceptions.

Nothing escapes their notice.

Number one on the list of things criminals hate is a barking dog.

They want to break in well under 30 seconds and they don’t want to be seen or heard doing so.

A good dog ruins that.

I’ve just upped on my odds, is all.

Lights, cameras, signs, dogs, guns.

We’ve had people comment that this place is not so much a home as a fortress.

Good.

:)

the attacker happened to be Black. They need to be reminded that violent white criminals (e.g. KKK) do similar things, or worse, to Black people.

"Happened" to be black? A quick glance at crime statistics would indicate that violent crimes by whites are the happenstance compared to violent crimes by blacks, which comprise up to 90% of violent crimes.

And to bring up the KKK in the north, in 2013? Really? Really?

Why would you give subpar meat to your dogs?

That’s cruelty to animals, right there. :)
