Priest Says Pelosi Has Admitted Her Abortion Position is Not Catholic

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi’s dismissive response to a letter from a leading pro-life Catholic priest is making waves nationwide.

LifeNews reported on Father Frank Pavone’s letter to House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and Pavone made an appearance on Fox News last weekend to underscore his point. Pelosi laughed off the letter from the top pro-life priest who is asking her to revise her pro-abortion position to make it conform to the pro-life teachings of the Catholic Church or to leave the Church.

She called Pavone arrogant, medieval, hysterical, and disconnected from the Catholic Church.

Now that Pelosi has responded to the letter, Pavone emailed LifeNews with his response. He said that, rather than answer the simple question as to what is the moral difference between killing a baby outside the womb or inside the womb, Pelosi has criticized him and his letter.

Pavone said: “I would like to know if Mrs. Pelosi, in her charges that we are arrogant, medieval, and hysterical, intends to include the more than 14,000 people (and counting) who signed onto my open letter to her in just the past few days. Rather than resorting to name-calling, she should answer the question all of us have raised. In refusing to answer this question, and instead choosing to criticize the messenger and then assert her own version of Catholicism, Mrs. Pelosi repeats the same display of avoidance and inconsistency as she exhibited at the June 13 press briefing that prompted my letter in the first place. Continuing to support dismemberment abortion, and refusing to explain its distinction from murder, she has disconnected herself from both faith and reason. Priests for Life will not allow this to go unchallenged.”

As for her assertion that she might pay attention to a more intellectual letter, Fr. Pavone responded: “The beginning of an intellectual approach to this discussion is to answer the simple question that started the discussion. Mrs. Pelosi refuses to take that first step.”

Fr. Pavone’s open letter, at LetterToNancy.com, continues to receive thousands of adherents each day from across the country.

In her interview with ThinkProgress earlier this week, Mrs. Pelosi said, “I grant the Church where they are on abortion. That’s where they are, that’s where they have to be. But my faith isn’t about what their position is.”

Fr. Pavone responded: “The beautiful thing about Catholic Faith is that it is not some kind of mysterious knowledge available only to elites or to the person holding it. Rather, it can be plainly understood by prince and pauper, young and old, educated and illiterate. We can all recognize when it is embraced and when it is rejected. Mrs. Pelosi has clearly rejected it, stating again that her faith is not what the Church teaches.

“We don’t need to consult the Catechism to know that terrorism is wrong – reason makes this plain,” added Fr. Pavone. “And yet, those who flew airplanes into our buildings were, all the while, professing their faith. You also don’t need to know theology or be a priest to conclude that tearing a baby apart limb by limb is wrong – reason likewise makes this clear. Yet, Nancy Pelosi has done it again – she’s trying to use faith talk to escape what both reason and Catholicism teach about abortion, and to escape answering the simple question, ‘What is the moral difference between killing a premature newborn and aborting a baby?’”

When I envision Pelosi I see the Lynda Blair throwing up green slime in the Exorcist. That is Nancy Pelosi. May the church deny her communion officially. She is vile evil. Pure and simple.

I don’t know why any practicing Catholic would vote Democrat, but there are many who do. What’s the point of having religious beliefs if you vote just opposite of them?

Nancy just may be welcoming many MILLIONS more Catholics to the Democrat party if the House is INSANE enough to pass the Amnesty Bill.

Odd, isn’t it? I heard a Catholic Bishop say just before the election that anyone voting for a pro-abortion candidate will have to answer to God for it. I think these Catholics have bought into the lie that Jesus was a socialist, or at least a partial socialist. They think high taxation and a nany state is the same as charity.

And all I can say about the article and what the priest did is...It’s about damn time!

Outrageous how arrogant pelosi is regarding her fake faith.
I pray this keeps front and center on her and forces her to make even more ridiculous statements.

The church has the power to excommunicate her. It should do so immediately. The church need not accommodate those who are hostile to its teachings or traditions. It would be a wake up call for Cinos (Catholics in name only) everywhere were Pelosi made an example.

Excommunicate her.

“I think these Catholics have bought into the lie that Jesus was a socialist, or at least a partial socialist. They think high taxation and a nany state is the same as charity.”

The lie was spread by their hierarchy, when they didn’t want to seem “un-hip” after Vatican II. One of my children has a “volunteering” requirement for confirmation (there’s something Hitleresque about forced volunteers); I certainly had no such requirement years ago. I’m trying to find opportunities with a conservation organization nearby, because in my area (northern NJ) “volunteering” simply means liberal white people giving away others’ things to non-whites (food, clothing, etc.). There is nothing “Christian” about mandating charity; Jesus himself was very clear about that in his discussion with the wealthy young man who couldn’t give up his belongings.

They wont because there is probably some value $$ to her membership or association of the church.

"the wealthy young man who couldn’t give up his belongings."

At least you view this in the proper context. Socialists, on the other hand, use this as an attempt to demonstrate their own view. They quote his statment "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven". They leave out the next verse, however, in which he says "What is impossible for a man is possible for God". He was merely saying that you can't buy your way into heaven, not that it's a sin in itself to be rich.

Similarly, the use the argument "Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's" as an example that Jesus advocated high taxes. Again, they take it completely out of context. For one thing, he was talking about tribute, not taxes. And the point of the story is that he didn't fall for their trick question. If he had said yes or no to their question, he would have been trapped. Instead he just pointed out that they were already using Roman currency, so they had to follow Roman rules.

Good comments.

I would like to add, just for thought, what did Caesar have that didn’t come from God? Looked at in that way, Jesus’ answer takes on added meaning...

Perfect definition of "Cafeteria Catholic," Nancy! Spoken in terms that would make any slimy politician proud.

So, why don't you find a church where your faith IS about what their position is?

Getting to be more “magic marker” religions. Just bring the magic marker to church and cross out the verses of Scripture that you don’t necessarily agree with.
