President Obama, in his statement hailing the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Defense of Marriage Act, promised that he wouldn’t try to force religious institutions to conduct gay marriages.
“On an issue as sensitive as this, knowing that Americans hold a wide range of views based on deeply held beliefs, maintaining our nation’s commitment to religious freedom is also vital,” Obama said. “How religious institutions define and consecrate marriage has always been up to those institutions. Nothing about this decision — which applies only to civil marriages — changes that.”

I had assumed Obama wouldn’t try that yet. Now that he’s made the announcement though, I suspect that government force is imminent.

Obama does not have the constitutional or Biblical authority to force churches to marry homosexuals.
Churches do not have the Biblical authority to delegate that power to the executive branch, either.
However as long as many Christians continue to hold a faulty view of Romans 13 - that civil government has final authority over everything - all bets are off.

And because of all the government meddling in religious matters, I’m going to hazard a guess that within the next year or so, the Pope will have the priest in this parish and all the others use some new word for the sacrament of marriage to be able to allow only a man and woman to be wedded in the eyes of churches-covenant, pairing-something.
