A bill that opponents claimed would virtually ban abortion in Texas failed to pass late Tuesday after lawmakers missed a deadline by just minutes.
There were chaotic scenes after a filibuster attempt fell just short and protesters cheered, clapped and shouted for the final 15 minutes as lawmakers tried to hold the vote before the session ended at midnight.
The filibuster by Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, lasted more than 10 hours but ended after three challenges to her speech were upheld.
Spectators in the Texas Senate chamber protest a halt to Sen. Wendy Davis' filibuster against an anti-abortion bill. The only way Democrats in the Republican-controlled Senate could defeat the measure was by not letting it come to a vote on Tuesday.
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, acting as Senate president, initially said the voting began just before midnight, NBCDFW.com reported, and several reports suggested that the bill had been passed and would go to Gov. Rick Perry. But Dewhurst later announced that the vote had been held too late.

Such a crock of horsesh!t pushed by the hysterical women at Nutjob Parenthood.
It required medical care (a hospital) to be located within 30 miles of an abortuary to care for women who suffer BOTCHED ABORTIONS at the "safe, legal, and rare" abortion facilities.
Also prohibited abortions after 20 weeks (late term abortions).
The butchers in the media love to kill some babies.
Should've kicked out the protester feminazis for interrupting the task at hand.
This planned parenthood funded protest of the bill HURTS WOMEN because it traps the victims of a botched abortion attempt at an ill suited facility unable to care for their abortionist caused injuries.
This was an anti-women move by Feminazis.
That another Special Session be called, and
That proper decorum rules ARE FOLLOWED!
I read that a democrat TX Senator said, “they have a right to speak, we are a democracy”
I called his office the next day, to remind him that “we are NOT a democracy we are a Republic and therefor, the gallery DOES NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO DISRUPT. They should all be in jail.
I wish you democrats would get it straight.”
