DENVER Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler announced Monday afternoon that the group seeking to recall Sen. Angela Giron turned in enough valid signatures to force a special recall election later this year.
That makes Giron, D-Pueblo, the second state lawmaker who could be recalled for her support of a Democratic package of gun control legislation earlier this year.
Senate President John Morse, D-Colorado Springs, is also facing a recall.
Of the 13,466 submitted by the group Pueblo Freedom and Rights, 12,648 were deemed valid, enough to clear the11,285 signature threshold 25 percent of the votes cast in Girons last election required to force a recall election.
That amounts to nearly 94 percent of the submitted signatures being deemed valid, an astonishing success rate for a petition drive.
Giron is likely to file a protest with Gesslers office.
Morses protest will be heard by the Secretary of States office this Thursday.
In both cases, should the protests fail, it will be up to Gov. John Hickenlooper to set a date for recall elections later this year.
"In a related development, people who signed petitions are now reported to be getting phone calls from out of state asking them to recant their signatures."
Good. I will gladly support any conservative who runs to replace them.
Ping.
Democrat Sen. Angela Giron may have been shocked to learn that she is headed for a recall election, but Republicans relished the news and believe they have the perfect candidate retired Pueblo Deputy Police Chief George Rivera for Senate District 3.
Hes the real deal, said Tom Ready, a dentist and former chair of the Pueblo County GOP. He is a common sense kind of guy, and a natural and perfect candidate.

Colorado Ping ( Let me know if you wish to be added or removed from the list.)
Please add me to your ping list.

What’s the basis for their protest? “We’re Special”?
Great news, and thanks! It appears that once in a while, pride can come before a political fall, too.
Done.
Thanks
Because its not ACORN signing up homeless people for packs of cigs.

The petition gatherers had laptops with the registration info. My brother was not on the list so they would not let him sign. He went and registered then went back.
That is why the signatures were 94% valid.
Really? I'd love to field one of those calls but thankfully we don't have a commie to recall in my district.
LOL
And if you don't, your house will burn, your children or wife could hava an "accident".
The other side is serious. Our side is not, but if they are going to survive, they beter get that way.
To the circulators, I say well done! This is an extraordinary percentage. To begin with, most people have no idea what Senate district they are in. Some, like your brother, can’t remember if they are currently registered. Using computers was really smart.
Indeed. The gatherers were warned of dem shennagins up front. Check out the letters in the local paper linked above. Good slapdowns of the race card.
