Obama: No to Keystone If it Increases 'Emissions' Daniel Halper June 25, 2013 1:32 PM
In President Obama's climate change speech set for later today, he'll reportedly say that the Keystone pipeline shouldn't be built if it hurts the environment.
The Huffington Post reports, "President Barack Obama will ask the State Department not to approve the construction of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline unless it can first determine that it will not lead to a net increase in greenhouse gas emissions, a senior administration official told The Huffington Post."
The liberal website adds:
The president has avoided weighing in on the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline for several years now, citing an executive order asking the State Department to make a determination on the project's viability first. Environmentalists have called on him to spike the project entirely because of risks that it will contribute irrevocably to global warming and potentially contaminate drinking water if it leaks. Conservatives and even some labor groups have encouraged Obama to approve of the project because of its potential to create jobs.
The new Obama policy somewhat splits the difference -- not killing the project outright, but ensuring that it meets a basic environmental standard.
Some estimate the project would result in 20,000 new jobs.
And an anonymous administration official tells the Huffington Post, "As the executive order on Keystone contemplates, the environmental impacts will be important criteria used in the determination of whether the Keystone pipeline application will ultimately be approved at the completion of the State Department decision process. .. In todays speech, the president will make clear that the State Department should approve the pipeline only if it will not lead to a net increase in overall greenhouse gas emissions."
He needs to stuff himself in a pipe.
interpetation ... You don’t need oil!
yep, magic carpet.
I’m not pusher ... you decide.
Currently, Buffet's Norfolk Southern rail-road transports oil from Canada to refineries in the United States.
Of course putting that pipeline in REDUCES emissions as Buffet's trains will no longer be required to move the oil from point a to point b, but that's irrelevant to Obama.
It's all about protecting his crony friends, who are going to reward him richly once he's out of office and "has more flexibility" I'd imagine...
yep, D.C. cares if you live or die.
Emissions? Like from your pal’s train? Oh that’s ok, he’s a big donor so it’s all right.
Obama is bs piled upon bs.
No space program
War on coal
No pipeline
Wasting billions of tax dollars on green energy scams
The Chevy Volt
Supporting Syrian terrorists
Moscow, China, Ecuador, and most other countries not receiving American largess, laugh at us
Foreign policy is an utter shambles around the globe
Losing our tech advantage
More people on welfare, food stamps, and disability than at any other time in American history.
Does this sound like an America that is at the zenith of it's power, or has Obama and Democrats really brought about change and hastened our ultimate demise?
“Obama: No to Keystone If it Increases ‘Emissions’ Decreases Warren Buffet’s ‘bottom line’.”
That should be shouted from the rooftops.
Scandalpalooza!!!!
Only in D.C. am I called a monster!
Got me scratching my head, too. A pipeline is basically a sealed system. If it emits no fumes or exhaust or anything else then how could it emit greenhouse gases?
And they DO have a preference.
No, the “emissions” come from increased usage of energy because it will be more affordable with the Keystone pipeline.
He’s basically admitted, though tangentially, that he wants energy to be unaffordable.
The pipeline would result in a DECREASE in “net overall greenhouse gas emissions”. The alternative is rail transportation. Obama is addressing his climate lobby constituency.
A. Producing and selling petroleum products in North America, or
B. Shipping it here across thousands of miles on massive tankers from Saudi Arabia?
Obama doesn't give a shit: he wants to destroy the oil, coal and natural gas industries in the service of a Global Warming lie and the collectivized government-controlled economy that lie serves to promote.
Yeah and a stationary system, not a series of tank cars moving at 70 mph.
Derailments are more common than pipeline breaks.
So following similar logic, just how does the government justify owning General Motors? They should have shut it down to reduce auto emmissions.
yep
