“A 5-4 victory in the highest court in the nation is NO victory for the owners of this country, us.”
It’s a lot better than the law being fully upheld. The days of the leftists on the Supreme Court actually ruling based on law and the Constitution ended with FDR. We will simply never get that back. The only other option is to do our best to keep the leftists off of the court, and that is not easy.
You missed my point my FR Friend, I was not even debating the merit of the split decision, but the complete lack of confidence we should have in the endless stream of 5-4 decisions.
Remember, we were told by our wonderful elected officials how brilliant these USSC judges are yet they seem completely incapable of agreeing on what our laws should be or mean!
Tell me how “Ignorance of the Law” is not excuse for the average citizen while it seems to be the modus operandi of the USSC.
Oh, so congress is now able to create voting districts containing more democrats than republicans.
Texas just reinstated it’s voter ID law and redistricting !
WOOT !!!
I LOVE my State !
Fixed everything in less than a few hours after the SC decision!
Since there is now no formula for determining who is covered by Section 5, at this point in time, no one is covered by Section 5. Unless and until Congress creates a new set of criteria to identify those who fall under Section 5 (and those criteria must be based on current conditions), no one is required to get pre-clearance. Now, the DoJ can still sue after the fact if they think a state makes a change that is discriminatory, but the burden of proof is now on the DoJ, not on the states.
That Bush signature had like 95 percent support within the hapless GOP too.
This truly is one of those “What difference does it make?” rulings. Elections are not legitimate. Every single person could stay home on election day and obama would still get millions of votes.
BTTT
What this means before people get all ticked off is that most likely they won’t be able to enforce section 5 ever again because Congress won’t be able to agree to a remedy. Good news.
I really don’t see this being an effective issue for them. Would be shocked.
Does this mean we can get rid of social engineering called gerrymandering and maybe finally get rid of idiots like Sheila Jackson Lee?
Freepers beware.
They’re throwing a bone to conservatives to appease us for the treachery that is coming later in the week.
Well, I guess that’s good. I’m just automatically skeptical and figure that any decision coming out of this SC is probably fundamentally flawed in some way.
