Just called Senator Coats office (R-Indiana). Said the senator does not support the bill as it stands. The staffer said that the border must be secured first and foremost before any other reforms to take place.

The staffer said the vote could take place this afternoon or tomorrow.

Don’t be fooled. I called Coats’ office and the staffer said the same thing about not supporting the bill as it stands now....BUT.....said Sen Coats has not taken an official position on the Corker amendment when I asked him about that. When I asked whether he would vote for or against the Corker amendment, the staffer said the same thing. Sen. Coats has not taken or made an official position known at this time.

I tried to press him, but he wouldn’t budge. I told him this sounded just like Lugar’s office. When a vote came up that he knew wouldn’t be popular or was controversial, he said he hadn’t made up his mind and then SHAZAM all of a sudden when the roll call was made he made his decision.....and voted the wrong way.

These are weasel words, IMO.

Don’t let up on Dan Coats. (202) 224 5623
