A poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that after the storm in New York and New Jersey, friends, relatives and neighbors were cited the most often as the people who helped them make it through.

Same here after Wilma. No water for a week, no power for 16 days...not a Red Cross or FEMA worker in sight. We all just worked together, shared our food and water, sat in the dark...
Until the out-of-state power worker sent 220 down the 110 line into my house, burning it down...
government is no substitute for community and church; politicians and bureaucrats are no substitute for friends and neighbors.

That just ain’t right.
Took the insurance money, sold the lot, and moved to New Mexico. No more hurricanes!
Bought a bigger, nicer home. Started my own business. Very happy ending, so far!
So the disaster turned into a Blessing!
