Slavery would have died out on its own as new farm equipment did away with the need for it. Thousands of men would have lived. That is your theory. And you base it on...?

Slavery died everywhere in the western world peacefully except in the USA. The war freed people that were definitely not ready for total freedom. Slavery was bad but turning a uneducated childlike person into the world was cruel. Most became share croppers for the “hated” whitey ex-owner’s land.

I know. I have been told that too. Should the slaves have gently waited five years? Ten years? Or maybe twenty years? I mean, it’s not like they were uncomfortable or anything.
