Immigration Reform: Not Easy, But it is Simple
American Thinker ^ | 06/23/2013 | C. Edmund Wright

Posted on 06/23/2013 12:24:14 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

By enacting just two basic -- albeit politically difficult measures -- neither of which are possible with the current president and Senate, our massive and emotionally charged illegal immigration problem would largely take care of itself within a few years. Not only that, but a laser focus on these two steps could codify the conservative/Republican position around principles we all agree on, and would leave the messier areas of our disagreements to a more appropriate time.

The low hanging fruit -- the crux of this matter -- is truly far simpler than we are making it, while some other hypotheticals are far more complex than most are willing to acknowledge. Labor and deportation nuances are inherently intertwined with issues like welfare, food stamps, unemployment compensation, law-enforcement logistics, and even workers comp, and are the result of supply and demand and human nature colliding with a porous border for about six decades. I'll get to all of this in a minute, and the relevance will become clear.

First, the two uncomplicated steps are to secure the border and stop government handouts. (Thankfully the focus on a border-first message is growing by the day.)

If we could do but those two things, this massive issue would unravel over a few years almost seamlessly -- and never again consume as much energy, anger or government funding as it does now. The full-fledged takers would be motivated to leave the country quickly, and new takers would not be incentivized to get in. This alone would reduce budgeting burdens tremendously. As a result, progress throughout the economy would proceed at a quick pace, and a lot of anger would be calmed.

Agreed. Plus, I’d add a third - e-verify verification for I-9s, with prosecution for fraud.

There is only one thing in the entire “debate” that needs overhauling, and that’s the fortitude, culpability, and integrity of the public servants entrusted to enforce current immigration law. Their dereliction of duty is the single greatest reason we are in the current situation.

True reform would be the mass expulsion of Mexican illegals. The government could even deputize American citizens if the Mexicans resist. However, such action would require far greater moral strength that the American currently possesses. The American of 2013 is a weakling compared to the American of the time of the war with Mexico.

And the Mexican criminals know it.

50 years ago, they were terrified of U.S. border enforcement. It was instant deportation or worse if they got caught entering illegally and especially if they had contraband.

Now they know we are weak, and to be weak in Mexico is to be dead.

They can't believe their luck: the Senate of the United States is falling all over itself trying to appease them.

Next, they make us dead. Or their underlings: to rule the gringos, and take back the land they never had, that's the dream.

When you align policy with human nature, instead of trying to swim upstream with an army of bureaucrats, it's amazing what will take care of itself.

There's yer problem right there; we are being governed by people who's ideology - progressivism - essentially consists of a revolt agains the natural order of things.

Anyone who's values and attitude are in line with God's natural order are not welcome in the decision making process.

When you read deeper....this article and author are part of the problem....not the solution

Author actually gives a pass to a fictitous landscaping company that hires illegal aliens...right there and then this author is covering and supporting Amnesty...and quite frankly being totally dishonest

If I am not mistaken....this is the same person that wrote some Karl Rove book....and attacked me and some others for calling out his EU/UN /Free Trade Globalist economics.

Remember that those who willy nilly push Free Trade are the biggest Open Borders and Illegal Alien Amnesty supporters.

Find it strange when the excuse is being given that while the government knows whats going on in 300 million citizens lives but because the illegals are not citizens and in “the shadows” according to Florida’s Senator Rubio the US doesn’t know who they are or where they’re comming from so we must make them citizens..

THE QUESTION IS SENATORS AND CONGRESS MEMBERS ...WHY ARE YOU SO SET ON IMPORTING LOW WAGE LABORERS MAINLY FROM ONE COUNTRY WHICH TAKE UP JOBS OUR YOUTH COULD BE PERFORMING AND HURTING THE BLACK AMERICAN JOB MARKET ?

FR’s ; are urged to visit their respective Congressional Representatives and let them know their feelings

WHEN IT COMES TO AMNESTY

THIS IS THE MEXICAN PART NO ONE DARES MENTION

If you agree with the above and the following please don’t let it lay here in FR-land. Pass it on to to your favorite talk show host and to your US legislators. PUSH THE HASTERT RULE.

ONE NATIONALITY AMNESTY SKEWS QUOTAS. HURTS OTHERS FROM SOUTH AMERICA, AND SKILLED LABOR QUOTAS FROM OTHER NATIONS ...WORSE YET OFFERING AMNESTY FOR NATIONALS FROM A COUNTRY THAT HAS CLAIMS ON OUR NATIONAL TERRITORY THAT COULD AND HAS TURNED INTO PROBLEMS FOR BORDER STATES CLAIMED BY MEXICO ?

In that May 3rd speech Obama gave before the Mexican Anthropological Museum in which he blamed America for the violence in Mexico I believe he went even futhur. There’s a inference but never referenced by name to the Gasden purchase and border settlements US made with Mexico where Obama hinted he seems to side with the Mexican claims. Would those in attendence share that view is a question that should be asked, because I believe they would,.he does.

SOLVING THE ‘LATINO” PROBLEM A MYTH HISPANIC IS NOT A RACE BUT A POLITICAL LINGUISTIC CONTRIVANCE ...Don’t fall into the hyphenated Americans trap created by the hyphenated political party ...The DEMO-COMS

The Mexicans have been getting most favorable treatment above the rest of our neighbors both north and south. They’re permitted to cross our borders and enter illegally and are allowed access to rights of citizenship (with the exception of voting which if the democrat party regains control over the House will happen) other nationals entering this country don’t get.. Worse yet the Obama government has been working hand in glove with Mexican movements such as LaRaza supporting the Mexican claims which are also supporting “Amnesty”.

Also by allowing Mexicans to do this any quota ration for immigration from other south and central American countrys are taken up by Mexicans while that country is laying claim to a large chunk of our sovereign territory is a recipe for later serious problems which are happening now.

ARE MEXICAN ILLEGALS SQUATTERS PERPETUATING THE MEXICAN CLAIMS ?

We are already seeing the result of this in certain areas claimed by the Mexicans. Their national flag (standard) gets displayed over ours. Where there is a controlling number of Mexican nationals (illegals). It’s displayed over certain institutions particularly schools accompanied by riots and disturbances. Blacks are threatend by Mexicans in certain sections of citys in those areas. We’re courting trouble by not placing a value on our sovereignty and our citizenship.

MOST COINS OF THE REALM HAVE TWO FACES WHAT ABOUT HOW ARE AMERICAN CITIZENS LIVING IN MEXICO BEING TREATED ?

Worse yet if a US citizen goes into Mexico never mind illegaly but legally. They’ll get 2nd class treatment. Land ownership in title is prohibited period. And there are a slew of regulations they must comply with. Which doesn’t apply to a citizen of Mexico

THE SOLUTION ASSERT OUR SOVEREIGNTY AND TALK RECIPROCITY .

By not insisting on reciprocity particularly on those who have entered this country illegally we’re offering no incentive for assimilation and we’re not easing the burden for our fellow citizens who for what ever reason decided to live in Mexico.

ENOUGH OF THE ONE WORLD SOCIALISM ...BRING BACK SOVEREIGNTY AND SANITY TO OUR COUNTRY .....BRING BACK BELIEF IN GOD ...THIS GOVERNMENT OUT OUR FACE..... OUR RELIGIONS..... AND OUR BEDROOMS..

A third tier to this plan should be improving the harsh conditions in Mexico that fuel illegal migration. President Peña Nieto’s came into office with an economic reform agenda that attacks the monopolies that dominate the Mexican economy. Mexico's legislature has passed a telecommunications antitrust act which will dismantle much of Carlos Slim’s telecom monopoly. This will open the market to new start-ups and foreign investors creating competition, spurring new products and services and creating new jobs. Another bill would begin to denationalize the government-controlled oil industry, encouraging private investment and development including from U.S. companies.

Congress and the White House act to encourage these developments in Mexico. Unfortunately the Democrats have seized on “immigration reform” as a scheme to import tens of millions of new voters. And many Republicans have been cowed into believing they can win over Hispanics by supporting this boondoggle.

... and stop government handouts.

While the handouts really need to stop, I thought that they were in place by court (SCOTUS) order? You can't deny someone a benefit (public education comes to mind as an example. Health care in emergency rooms another) just because they're here illegally.

Getting this Supreme Court to overturn that precedent is going to be impossible.

RE: Author actually gives a pass to a fictitous landscaping company that hires illegal aliens...right there and then this author is covering and supporting Amnesty...and quite frankly being totally dishonest

I’m not sure if I read it as “covering and supporting amnesty”.

The author is IMPLICATING THE GOVERNMENT for causing this situation ( i.e. the fictitious landscaping company hiring illegals ) to easily occur.

He wants eVerify ENFORCED first at the welfare office not at the business level.

Now you can disagree with him regarding the efficacy of this strategy, but I don’t see how we can read this as supporting Amnesty.

In fact, the entire tone of his article is to emphasize Securing the border first and a common sense second step of removing the most insidious of the artificial incentives — the handouts.

So go call Frank -- your lawn needs mowing. And don't sweat it -- it's not your fault, or Frank's, that young able-bodied and unemployed hipsters are at Whole Foods buying scallops using their EBT cards.

The author is an idiot. The idea that the immigrants, legal and illegal, are doing jobs Americans won't do is a bald-faced lie. It has to do with depressed wages. If there were a true shortage of labor, wages would be going up, not declining.

And exactly how would E-verify be used at the welfare office?

E-Verify is an Internet-based system that compares information from an employee’s Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to data from U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration records to confirm employment eligibility.

If you fail that, you GET NO WELFARE.

Immigrants use welfare to a greater extent than the native born. The author is implying that Americans are getting too many handouts and would rather remain on welfare than work.

I agree it is simple. From my home page...

___________________________________________________________________

Whenever an illegal alien kills someone in a drunk driving accident or something similar, here’s what I recommend:
What can we do about it? Here’s my standard post.

RICO —Citizen Recourse

Private persons and entities may initiate civil suits to obtain injunctions and treble damages against enterprises that conspire to or actually violate federal alien smuggling, harboring, or document fraud statutes, under the Racketeer-Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO). The pattern of racketeering activity is defined as commission of two or more of the listed crimes. A RICO enterprise can be any individual legal entity, or a group of individuals who are not a legal entity but are associated in fact, and can include nonprofit associations.

Here’s what I’ve been pushing: it’s time to file Racketeering, Influencing, and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) lawsuits.

RICO lawyers could turn it around in a few years and MAKE MONEY at the same time. I’m surprised they haven’t done it already.

In the absence of enforcement, we can get the word out in the meantime that there is money to be made in filing RICO lawsuits against employers who hire illegal aliens like this jerk.

Employers would have no trouble shutting down the border if they could get sued by someone under the RICO statutes for hiring these people in the first place. The next time an illegal alien kills someone in a drunk driving accident or somesuch thing, I’m going to point out that the victim’s family might be able to seek compensation from the employer under these statutes in the hopes that it would catch on. If this did catch on, would see such a swift backlash against illegal immigration that no employer would go near these people and they’ll all simply want to go back home.

EXACTLY!!! When pregnant women from around the world come here and have a free baby who becomes a US citizen at that moment, this is not going to stop. After the free baby is born comes the free food and other freebies they do not get in their countries. Then they know that liberals will scream when momma or daddy does something more illegal and nears deportation. It’s a free world here and they have educational resources that bribe them all the way with our support.

Mow you own lawn and learn to fix your mower. Clean your own home and learn that vacuum cleaners have bags that need changing or it might burn up. Why let illegals who might be killers into your home/land and then cost other taxpayers who don’t do this in policing your cheapness?

We need to get over the Walmart mentality.

I am well aware of what E-verify does, but the author is talking about stopping welfare for Americans. Here is what he wrote:

We are also here because government has made it lucrative to sit at home and live off the dole. Studies have shown that it's possible to live a 60-thousand-dollar lifestyle by taking maximum advantage of handouts. Please tell me how we can fill 20-30-40-thousand-dollar a year job niches when you can knock down 60 sitting on your duff. The market tells us in no uncertain terms that we can't. Yet we need those niches filled -- you need them filled.

Legal immigrants still get welfare as do American citizens. Illegal aliens get welfare payments mainly thru their American born children.

Build the fence.

Double the size of the Border patrol and ICE.

Make hiring an illegal a jailable offense.

Cut off ALL benefits to illegals.

End birthright citizenship.

End chain migration.

Repeal the immigration bills of 1965 and 1986.

Refocus the H1-B visa program on skilled workers.

Have Congress certify whether the border is secure, not the Executive Branch.

Streamline the procedures for coming her legally.

Then when all of this is done, we’ll talk about what to do about those who are still here.
