Candidate Rubio: ‘Earned Path to Citizenship is Basically Code for Amnesty’
Town Hall ^ | June 22, 2013 | Leah Barkoukis

If we are to believe candidate Marco Rubio’s comments during an Oct. 24, 2010 debate, it seems the Florida senator’s views on immigration reform have ‘evolved’ quite a bit since taking office.

During a debate with opponents Rep. Kendrick Meek and Gov. Charlie Crist, candidate Rubio argued that giving illegal immigrants an “earned path to citizenship,” which Crist, Sen. John McCain and former President George W. Bush had advocated, is basically amnesty.

"First of all, earned path to citizenship is basically code for amnesty. It's what they call it," Rubio said. "And the reality of it is this: This has to do with the bottom line that America cannot be the only country in the world that does not enforce its immigration laws. It is unfair to the people that have legally entered this country to create an alternative pathway for individuals who entered illegally and knowingly did so."

"If you do that, you will never have a legal immigration system that works," he continued. "No one is going to follow the law if there is an easier way to do it."

I would say this:

any illegal can earn a path to citizenship if he pays taxes at the highest taxable rate with no deductions for a period of 15 years.

He was either lying then, or he's incredibly stupid.

Wouldn’t help, most are not only exempt from taxes but due to low income would be do a refund under “earned income tax credit”.

We did this in ‘86 with the promise of sealing the boarder, fool me once....

He was a liar in 2010 and many across the web and right here pointed out a number of his issues. But ‘winning’ was all some cared about because the Dem is always worse...so we were told. This is the result of that stupidity. This ain’t the Obama bill. It’s the RUBIO bill.

And the Dem AIN’T worse.

Electing unprincipled two faced liars a bad idea? Who could have ever forseen that.

Rubio is a liar.
Big Surprise.

The real story is, will Republican voters fall for the RINO establishment’s call and support these liars next year?

Remember, it was McCain in 2007 who led that year’s amnesty travesty, and was so reviled that in March 2008 his campaign was out of money and support.

Then the RINO establishment kicked in, the Wall Street Journal, the Chamber of Commerce, the Roves and their ilk, and McCain was rescued and chosen the nominee. The result was Barack Obama.

Those same forces are out there ready to take over election apparatus in 2014 and 2016 to make sure big spending, open borders, amnesty loving RINOs are the candidates.

Add in the low information pundits - Hannity, O’Reilly, Huckabee, and Rubio and his buddies will become the anointed ones again, their amnesty treason forgotten and ignored.

Right now, thanks to amnesty and the McCains, Flakes, Rubios, Grahams, Corkers, et al., the Republicans are on the way to disastrous 2014 losses in the Senate, loss of the House, and in 2016 a Hillary Clintion victory.

Why is he a disappointment? Are we that desperate to win an election that we will vote for the least qualified hispanic just to win the White House. Everyone was hoping to groom Rubio just garner the hispanic vote so we could punish the moron's that voted for obama. Rubio wouldn't even be on the radar screen if he wasn't hispanic.

Rubio is just a poser who can speak "conservative" as fluently as he can Español.

What has Rubio actually done in life other than run his mouth?

Why should anyone listen to anything he has to say?

"Senator" carries the power and importance, but the "Rubio" part? What does the "Rubio" part do other than use the "Senator" part against the country he claims as his?

He's working for his people, but with him, that means he's also working against the rest of US.

Good post overall on the RINO establishment. The ease with which it manipulates the party’s feckless voters is evidence that the Dems don’t own all the low information voters. There are plenty of them in the Republican Party too.

Rubio has fooled no one. The drill remains the same, support only conservative candidates and hope we can find one who can’t be bribed or fooled. If we try third part we hand over all the keys to the kingdom instead of just a few.
Ted Cruz may be the man.

Yes, but consider the advantages of being free of the detritus and deadweight in the party ranks and the useless RNC and NRSC. Maybe you should re-think this. :)
