Who is Gary Muthert? Well, he is the Internal Revenue Service officer in Cincinnati who gathered applications in 2010 — presumably from the tea party and other conservative organizations seeking tax-exempt status. He did it, he says, at the behest of a local Cincinnati IRS manager who incidentally remains unidentified. According to transcripts of Muthert’s testimony to the House investigative committee, the unidentified manager informed Muthert that “Washington, D.C. wanted some cases.” That is to say, tea party cases.
Who is Elizabeth Hofacre? She too is an employee of the IRS in Cincinnati. She somehow received Muthert’s cases, and whether on her own or at the direction of someone else she sought help with these cases from the Washington, D.C. office whose purview it is to oversee tax-exempt organizations. This gets complicated. Why were Muthert’s cases not sent directly to Washington as the unidentified manager requested? How did Hofacre get involved?
Then there is Holly Paz. Who is she? Well, she is a career IRS lawyer with vast experience in several IRS posts. She coordinated with the Cincinnati office on matters of tax-exempt organizations. She seems to be pivotal in this smog of named and unnamed IRS officers, but for what?
These three employees of the IRS are but three named employees of that vast and bewildering smog that is emerging from the IRS scandal. If it continues to grow, soon it will drive all intelligent observers away. All these named and unnamed IRS officers have one thing in common. They were dealing almost exclusively with conservatives’ applications for tax-exempt status from 2010 to 2012, which they insist is purely coincidental. That is what we are told.

I hear the investigation on this case is VERY intense. They are really digging deep into all these federal crimes. Folks are really nervous about all the people that are being interrogated. Justice is on the verge of being served. This will NEVER happen again.
Who is the lead investigator again? How many of the victims have been interviewed? What evidence has been collected?

It WILL happen again. It has to, as long as there is an IRS, an income tax, and tax-exempt categories.
Government power will ALWAYS be abused eventually. It is the nature of government, because it is human nature to abuse power.

Of course, I agree with you. Our government is out of control quite literally. I now only hope that we can elect a conservative president in the future that will use this incredible power that is now the president's to destroy "our enemies". Using the IRS, DOJ, EPA to investigate, fine, charge and ruin would help the GOP too. We could label Soros a traitor and confiscate his wealth. Al Gore could go to jail. Planned parenthood would be gone. We could sell Detroit and Chicago.
After all, there is now precedence and apparently it is oky-doky with the democrats.

They will get rewarded for their loyalty to the cause. An Ambassadorship or Cabinet post (a la Susan Rice). The party will continue to reward these traitors for years to come. Before that can happen, they should be prosecuted and put in jail.
I hope you’re right and that something is going on. There has been such silence - and of course, Obama has fled to foreign lands now - that I have been worried that it had all been devoured by the Ministry of Truth.
In terms of the Special Prosecutor, there should certainly be one. But the problem is that this can take a long time, and don’t forget that Holder is the one who has to approve the Special Prosecutor. So maybe revealing it through Congressional hearings is the best way at the moment.

If they had any balls (I know, it's laughable) they'd come up with a ONE PAGE bill eliminating ALL CURRENT TAX LAWS and replace it with a simple, one rate Flat Tax, say 15%, on all gross earnings - no deductions.
Dare the Senate to pass it and Obama so sign it or call them they tyrannical facist they are for protecting the EVIL IRS!
At least they could cut all funding of the IRS now!
Most likely they've been left on their own with no particular guidance for the last 50 years ~ the organizational structure is probably built around two principles ~ opening the mail efficiently (big part of the job in a field office) and the work schedule for attorneys in DC working in an advisory capacity but still part of the General Counsel's office.
Some folks have gone to a lot of trouble to fill in the blanks on how these processes were managed. Some of the earlier FR threads have those org charts. Might look them up on google.com by asking for FREEREPUBLIC IRS Organization Chart Structure

What do you need SPECIAL PROSECUTOR/INVESTIGATOR for? there is nothing to see here. Its all been cleaned up as Mr. Cummings has stated. Eric Holder is in charge and everything is A-OK.
